We turned up late on a Sunday afternoon - at first we were the only visitors on the tour (a few more joined us part way through) - they put the tour on in English for us (& gave a guide in French to one of our party who doesn't speak English/German). This is a well furnished castle (the owner... More

The original monastery has been added to and turned into a Chateau for the Wittelsbach family. Still privately owned by them, the building, which can be visited only with a guided tour, is in very good shape. Some very good late medieval paintings and sculptures can be found on the way. And the vsiit ended in a small secluded rose... More

We went here in June and would highly recommend it. As has been pointed out by other reviewers visitors have to go on a guided tour which is in German however English visitors are given a room guide. We also had a lovely guide who took the time and trouble in each room to add further explaination just for us.... More

Berchtesgaden abounds with attractions. The Schloss is spectacular, but does pale by comparison with the fairytale Neuschwanstein, nonetheless is worth a visit. Typical of many things German, it is done on a grand scale. On your way to Berchtesgade, be sure to not miss the sleeping Hexe - the mountain ridge profile of a reclining/sleeping "witch."

Spent about an hour here taking pictures and viewing the area. Worth the time to visit. The only issue was they would not let you inside with a guided tour. And the guided tours in english were only scheduled twice a day. I am sure in the summer they probably do more tours.

This royal residence, in a former monastery, is worth visiting, especially if you understand German. It can only be visited on a guided tour, only in German, though English notes are available. The guide gives a very interesting history of the building and its associated people and events. Photos are not permitted. Do not miss the beautiful altarpieces by Tilman... More

Loved the outer look. Did not get to visit inside as it was that time of the day - between 12 and 2:30 when EVERYTHING is closed. So sad.

When I was in Berchtesgaden for the first time I didn't get the chance of visiting this place! I am glad i could return and visit this marvellous castle! The tour is in german, but as we started, the guide tryed his best to explain in English! As we where able to understand a bit of german, everything end. up... More

We visited the Schloss while on a coach trip to Berchtesgaden while on holiday in Austria. We had planned on going up to the Eagles Nest but the weather was showery and very low cloud so we opted to spend all our time in the town itself. We visited this Schloss and glad we did. It was very atmospheric and... More

This is a very nice palace with some interesting furniture and paintings. The guide was very friendly and made the visit also worthwhile for smaller children.
