We rode the cable car up to the top where the views were amazing. We then decided to hike down to a lower gondola to ride back down. We had a magnificently sunny day.

We didn't think we were up for the hike up so we took the cable car up and hiked down. We got there for the first cable car at 8 am (or maybe it was 8:30) -lots of parking and not crowded(!) and went up...More

We chose to go to the Alpspitz rather than the Zugspitze so that we could look AT the Zugspitze. Happy with our choice as there's a bit more to do at the Alpspitz. Great ride up, wonderful hike, and a couple food options at the...More

The Zugspitze is the highest mountain and it is also the busiest. The Alpspitz next door is overlooked, figuratively and litterally, but for my money the better experience is the Alpspitz. Parking is free and there are no queues. Travel up on one lift, visit...More

This is a must, the cable car takes you straight up the mountain, I mean straight up! Breathtaking views of Garmish and surrounding areas, looks like most people ride up and walk down, you can walk half way down and ride another cable car down...More

Went to Alpspitz after Zugspitz. It was much warmer. Lots of trails to hike. Just lovely. We could see Ludwig's hunting lodge in the distance.

Took the cable car up to the top for a paragliding experience. Although the cost of the cable car is quite pricy, the view from the top of the mountain is awesome, especially on a lovely sunny and clear day. Have made this trip 3...More

It was a clear, sunny day & the views were amazing! Watched the paragliders taking off which was very cool. You can get on the Hochalmbahn at the top or walk down for about an hour. If you are able, the walk is stunning -...More

When I was there in August there weren't any explicit restrictions in that regard. I didn't specifically ask about them either though. That being said, there was no one there to monitor whether you climbed to the upper... More

I do not believe there is any type of road heading to the Alpspitze viewing station. The Alpspitzebahn or hiking trails get you there. One of my favorite webcams is up there. If you have not checked them out, google... More

It's a very long up hill hike, about four hours up and about 3.5 down. All nature all the way so be prepared. You can Google average temperatures in Garmisch-Partenkirchen to help guide you.
