Coburg is another charming Bavarian town located between the Upper Main Valley and Thuringian Forest.. Looming 167 m above this small city is the magnificent Veste Coburg Fortress, nicknamed the "Crown of Franconia." The castle combines elements of Late Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, as well as Historicist and Romantic .Collections include rare paintings, sculptures, a coin cabinet and original manuscripts. Combine... More

Overlooking the city of Coburg. Recommend using Audio guide otherwise lot of information is missed. The layout is sometimes muddled. Given the frequency Queen Victoria visited there hardly any mention. Extensive range of portraits, military weapons & armoury.

Stumbled upon this place on a morning walk. The ancient walls, stunning views, fragrant lavender patch, and rich history made for a truly memorable visit.

Lovely old castle full of history and charm. It's a huge walk up the hill through lovely gardens but is you like you can catch the little train that goes every 1/2 hour for about 4.30 Euro return. We missed it so we walked up ! The Castel has lots of olden day relics and well worth the visit especially... More

I visited Coburg Veste mostly for the military and weapons collections. I was astounded by the glass, wood carvings, art, just everything. It is a fascinating fortress filled with a wide range of collections. There is something here for virtually everyone. Allow lots of time because if you are trying to see everything, it can take all day.

I've seen some castles, but they are not like this one. Car parking is limited, so get in early to get close or you will need to park down the hill near the airport entrance road nod walk up, probably a good thing actually as there is a path just parallel to the road with great views to the city... Got the small train to the top as it was 32 degrees, but had a leisurely walk back down through the park. Worth going for the view alone, but we went on a tour of the castle. If you are interested in weaponry then this has one of the best collections we have viewed. My husband was in his element... More

You have to walk for about half an hour through a park to reach this fortress above Coburg, but it is worth the effort. It is very large, and there are some excellent photo opportunities. If you pay the entrance fee of 6 Euros you can probably see more of the internal rooms, but I just walked around outside. There... More

A trip up the hill is worth a walk through the park for the great view at the top. You can drive up but if you're expecting a days worth of activities at the top you're mistaken. There's a museum, a place to eat and drink and some good photo opportunities.

If you don't use he little road train it's a long walk uphill, but the views, the buildings and the history are well worth it. There are two cafes, one by the museum shop (indoor) and one when you reach the entrance. The shop has some good souvenirs.
