It is simply amazing and a must see if you are visiting Bavaria! The history behind both castles is interesting and amazing to see the insides!

I enjoyed the tour inside the castle as it really gave a sense that a family lived here. The artifacts and paintings were well preserved and the setting by the lake is lovely. You could imagine little children running and playing in the castle grounds. There were crowds of visitors despite it being the low season. I recommend pre booking... More

It was nice and interesting but the best part about this Castle is that it right by Neuschwanstein Castle.

I only had the opportunity to see it from the outside, and it looks so huge! So close from Neuschwanstein Castle!

While both Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castles are amazing to see, I thought the Hohenschwangau Castle had a much more interesting tour. The tour (in many languages and time options) gave a more insightful image as to how Maximilian and his family (including Ludwig) grew up. Furniture, paintings, and birthday gifts adorn the castle and the tour is good (though guarded...... More

This castle lies just few meters away from the ticket center and it is better to visit this before Neuschwanstein. It gives the necessary background of Ludwigs history. Many of the rooms were closed, so we visited only four or five rooms. Still it's worth seeing it. The gardens in front of the castle should not be missed. There is... More

We weren't really sure if wanted to visit this castle or not but since we got to the ticketing booth way earlier than the next available tour for Neuschwastein and the sales clerk suggested we'd do it, we went for it. Our tour guide was extremely entertaining and knowledgeable, which made our visit even more pleasing. You get to visit... More

Do this before Neuschwanstein, otherwise it won't be as awesome. This castle also has lots of impressive details inside! The tours are offered in many languages and are very informative! Just down the hill is Swan Lake, a nice area to relax or rent a little boat.
