I hadn't realized the history of this castle before! King Maximilian actually built this from the ruins of a medieval castle! While Neuschwanstein is definitely more memorable from the outside, my wife and I really enjoyed this one better. Nevertheless, if you're in town, you...More

While you are visiting Neuschwanstein Castle make sure to head over to Ludwig's parents castle across the way. Spectacular views of the whole area are visible from the top of the castle

Nice looking castle on top of the hill. Lots of steps to walk up at the front. Round the back a more gentle slope ascent. Timed entry and inside rooms bright unlike the castle opposite. Well worth a visit with a guided tour. Town below...More

I liked this tour better than the Neuschwanstein castle tour. Our guide was full of information about the past of both castles. Hohenschwangau is a finished and lived in castle and it was very comfortable to be in. You are not allowed to take pictures...More

Great place for a hearty German meal! The food was delicious, the beer was was great and the service was fast and efficient. Our waitress spoke English & went out of her way to help us with extra's we found in the gift shop.

It seems this grand castle has taken a backseat to the Neuschweinstein castle above, but it is still spectacular in its own right. It is hard to imagine the work and labor force that built this years ago. Definitely a must stop in Germany.

If you want a great day trip from Munich visit this castle and Neueschwanstein. Our kids (11 & 13) loved the tours and the horse carriage ride. No photos allowed inside. Our tour guide through the castle was excellent and spoke very good English.

This is the castle of the parents of King Ludwig II just down the mountain from Schloss Neuschwanstein. Another majestic and beautiful castle with breathtaking views.

This was great. The walk up and through the wood and through the Arches was brilliant. Our tour guide was witty and I enjoyed that. Very informative. A must do experience.

The interiors of the castles are NOT stroller friendly. It is possible to take a stroller on some of the paths to the castles; other paths have stairs. You can definitely do both castles the same day; the ticket office in... More
