This prominent public square, the largest in Munich, still stands as the center of social activity in the city, much as it has throughout history.

The glockenspiel dance & chimes occur every day at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. (as well as 5 p.m. in summer) - wait until the cock crows at the end :). This worth seeing if you have time. The Rathaus (old & new), plus the...More

This is a beautiful spot to spend some time while in Munich. The Glockenspiel display is definitely worth the 5-6 minutes of neck crinking. But, at the time of our visit, the noise from a major construction site did ruin the ambience slightly. I'm sure...More

All roads lead here, eventually. Particularly relevant if you are trying to understand the Third Reich history of Munich. The Food Market/ Viktualienmarkt is worth visiting (just one square away).

Marienplatz is part of a wonderful chain of pedestrian passages, courtyards and narrow streets, with cafes, high end shops and a few trees. This would be the most interesting place for any tourist to visit in Munich!

This spot is the perfect place to chill out in between sightseeing as it's super central with plenty of restaurants and shops around it.

Check the schedule for the Glockenspiel. Shopping here is great. I suggest a tour guide to tell you the history of this special clock.
