    Originating point of Munich
St. Peter's church is the oldest church in the city therefore it is probably the originating point of Munich. It is a Roman Catholic church and its tower is one of the landmarks. I can recommend visiting for tourists.

Cool Art and an Ancient Corpse
Inside the church, there are numerous art treasures to explore. What catches the eye immediately are the stunning frescos on the ceiling. Originally painted in the mid-18th Century, they were either destroyed or badly damaged during bombing in WW II and re-created at the end of the 20th Century. Keen observers with a knowledge of religious history will note the upside down cross, relevant because the namesake of the church, St. Peter, was crucified upside down. There are many other beautiful frescos and sculptures, some centuries old, not to overlook the high altar from the early 18th Century with a golden figure of St. Peter. There is also the glass casket with the remains of a martyr who lived in Rome around the year 250. Originally buried in the Roman catacombs, her remains were a gift to Munich in the 17th century.

    Worth the walk up!
About 300+ steps. The walk up was well worth it. WARNING to anyone who is claustrophobic. Avoid if you aren’t able to handle tight spaces. Gets very tight. Especially when some people are walking down the stairs and you’re trying to go up. It’s very cramped. The view is worth it. The top has a spot for you to rest. If you can handle all the stairs, I highly recommend!

The views are worth the climb.
The climb to the top is a bit of a leg burner, but well worth the panoramic views. It takes 10-15 minutes to walk up, and you can spend as long as you like at the top. The stairs down exit into the church, which is equally impressive to see. Well worth the visit.

Worth the price and the climb
Fun climb to the top. Might be tough for those afraid of heights or claustrophobic as the stairs get tight in some spots but there are places to stop and rest at the start and at the very top there are benches. Our kids flew up the stairs without a problem. The views are great especially if you time it with the glockenspiel showings at 11, 12, or 5 at marianolatz.

    Good views
Some tips (won’t dwell on the culture and history, you can do your own research on that). To visit the church is free. To climb to the top of the tower is €5. You can pay cash or card. The stairwell is insanely narrow, some places you have to wait to let people come down or up before you can proceed. Great views from the top.

We went for the view from the tower and that does not disappoint, however the way the crowds are controlled is not existent. Once you pay your entrance fee and start the climb up 14 floors you're on your own and it gets quite narrow on some of the stairs people cant squeeze past causing backlogs and queues, when you get to the very top the viewing platform is only wide enough for two people to pass so if people stop to take pictures (the reason most people go up there) that's it log jam. All the time more and more people are coming up blocking the stairs and making getting down impossible.
There was no staff to be seen only at the pay point at ground level, I'm not a nervous person in crowds or enclosed spaces but this was unpleasant. God forbid something happened while you are up there you are on your own and people will get hurt. Maybe god will be on your side but I didn't want to take my chances and came down.
I fully understand the age of the building means narrow stairs and enclosed spaces also a lift would ruin the building all that is needed is a control on the numbers going up and down, but of course this would mean less income for the church.

St Peter offers perhaps the best view of Munich. Located just across Marienplatz from the Rathaus, it has the huge advantage of being able to see the wonderful facade of the town hall from the top of its tower.

It costs €5 to climb to the top up Barrow wooden stairways - quite steep but not so many of them as to make it too much of a trudge - and you get unparalleled views of the centre of the historic city. Even on a day when it wasn’t brilliantly clear, I could see the Olympiaturm and the shapes of the Bavarian Alps.

You enter the tower from outside the church but emerge inside, where the gorgeously decorated ceiling and nave are worth sitting and admiring.

A great church all round.

We didn't visit inside when in Munich, but did climb the tower for just 3 euros per person on an incredibly windy and snowy February day. From the top of the church tower many major landmarks can be seen in incredible detail, such as the Frauenkirche, Rathaus, Olympicpark and Viktualienmarket. Well worth visiting for excellent views of this beautiful city.

Went for a climb up the tower. Narrow stairs as expected and wooden. While the stairs may fit only one person, there are spaces every so often for a breather. I climbed at around 10:50am, it’s a bit crowded at that time since people stay to watch the Glockenspiel performance. Good views all around and on your way down, around the 2ish floor there is an alternative way down that leads into the cathedral. Beautiful interior.

You can pay a few euros to climb the tower here. It offers good views of Marienplatz and the surrounding city. The stairs are in places single file, so there is a bit of waiting in peak periods. The top has wooden floor and metal grate. I wouldn't recommend for anyone with vertigo or scared of heights. I wasn't too keen. Worth a climb for great views!

One of the large, well-known churches in Munich. It is rather plain from the outside, but the interior is all the more beautiful. Unfortunately, the altar area was largely obscured by scaffolding during my visit. The climb up the church tower is highly recommended, from where you have a wonderful view of the city center. For the 5.00 EUR you have to climb quite a few steps, so the climb is only recommended to a limited extent for people with mobility restrictions.

Awe-inspiring and yet exuding an aura of calm! The sanctuary has withstood the ravages of time since the 16th century and looks very well preserved. Domed painted ceilings and a golden altar and statues.
We were fortunate enough to attend the 930am Sunday service and though we don’t understand German, the time spent there was food for the soul and the presence of God near.

With over 300 steps to climb your breathe will be taken away long before the 360 degree view takes it away. Personally I love these sort of challenges to get to your goal and you can always catch your breathe once you have arrived at the top and admire the beautiful city surroundings. Though it is very safe, It is a bit cramped up top since the balcony is a bit narrow. If you're into collecting souvenir zero euro notes, souvenir coins and pressed pennies, you defiantly need to go.

Was told this is a must do - climb to the top fo the tower. Be ready to go up and up - 306 steps to the top - there is no elevator, but when you reach the top you get a great view of the city. When you come down be sure to go inside the amazing church
