St. Peter's church is the oldest church in the city therefore it is probably the originating point of Munich. It is a Roman Catholic church and its tower is one of the landmarks. I can recommend visiting for tourists.

Inside the church, there are numerous art treasures to explore. What catches the eye immediately are the stunning frescos on the ceiling. Originally painted in the mid-18th Century, they were either destroyed or badly damaged during bombing in WW II and re-created at the end of the 20th Century. Keen observers with a knowledge of religious history will note the upside down cross, relevant because the namesake of the church, St. Peter, was crucified upside down. There are many other beautiful frescos and sculptures, some centuries old, not to overlook the high altar from the early 18th Century with a golden figure of St. Peter. There is also the glass casket with the remains of a martyr who lived in Rome around the year 250. Originally buried in the Roman catacombs, her remains were a gift to Munich in the 17th century.

About 300+ steps. The walk up was well worth it. WARNING to anyone who is claustrophobic. Avoid if you aren’t able to handle tight spaces. Gets very tight. Especially when some people are walking down the stairs and you’re trying to go up. It’s very cramped. The view is worth it. The top has a spot for you to rest. If you can handle all the stairs, I highly recommend!

The climb to the top is a bit of a leg burner, but well worth the panoramic views. It takes 10-15 minutes to walk up, and you can spend as long as you like at the top. The stairs down exit into the church, which is equally impressive to see. Well worth the visit.

Fun climb to the top. Might be tough for those afraid of heights or claustrophobic as the stairs get tight in some spots but there are places to stop and rest at the start and at the very top there are benches. Our kids flew up the stairs without a problem. The views are great especially if you time it with the glockenspiel showings at 11, 12, or 5 at marianolatz.

Some tips (won’t dwell on the culture and history, you can do your own research on that). To visit the church is free. To climb to the top of the tower is €5. You can pay cash or card. The stairwell is insanely narrow, some places you have to wait to let people come down or up before you can proceed. Great views from the top.
