Although Munich's Bohemian neighborhood has gentrified in recent years, visitors to the area can still experience hints of its cultural legacy.

I have been there many times, having friends who live there. It has always been one of the nicest places for students to live, work and hang out. Lots of nice restaurants, cafés and shops.

Took a long walk along Franz-Josef-, Animiller- and Romer-strasse, which a friend has recommended me as streets to scour for Jugendstil houses. And, yes, there were at least a dozen great buildings in this area (including the house of the White Rose kids). The area is full of good places to eat, grab a beer or just sit lazily in the sun. Cool, small gardens and squares everywhere.

Schwabing is a neighbourhood you can easily spend a full day, just strolling around, discovering plenty of nice restaurants, cafes, shops. Look at all the people strolling by. The Leopoldstrasse runs right through the middle of it, and is, in my opinion the least attractive bit.

Nice place to live, nice place to be. Lot of restaurants, shops and cafes. Close to Englishes Garten, not far from city center.

This is the most stupid idea we ever seen. This thing belongs in a zoo or a park, but not off the main street in Munich Schwabing! If you are a rock climber, you may like to get a rope and test it out! Lol...

Good location, with easy access to Munich Airport, and easy transportation to Marionplatz. The area is vey comfortable and fashionable. Olympic Park is nearby and if you are driving you can easily get to Bavaria in an hour!

Always great to be in the Centre of Munich’s vibe. The people, style, fashion, food, nightlife will not disappoint the seasoned traveller or one just starting out on a fashion adventure. The film studio Arri Flex is on your doorstep as is the New Forrest.....set to many, many films....when you begging to walk into the Forrest, you’ll swear you’ve been there before. Also, visit The English Garden, the Chinese Pavilion, river surfing in the very cold Eisbach River....and some of the best Pizza’s I’ve had in Europe......you won’t be disappointed.

Schwabing covers the area beyond the Siegestor on Leopoldstrasse and is home to universities, museums, the English Gardens and the Walking man sculpture. Older than the city of Munich, it used to be home to many artists and intellectuals including Lenin.

My place of work was in outer Schwabing, so I had some chance to go around the place. It was pretty quiet apart from the office travel hours. There were some good places for food though, Indian/Thai etc. Advantage - it is well connected on the metro to all places. Found some decent stay options in the locality as well

This area has plenty of shops and cafe's to explore and a market area too. It's got a quite intimate feel to it, although several of the shops and cafes seemed a little empty or closed around 4:30-5pm on a Sat. afternoon which sapped the atmosphere somewhat. I imagine it may be more vibrant around standard mealtimes.

I plan to visit Munich in early December. How do I reach Schwabing area by using the Suburban (S) or the Underground (U) train? Are there any christmas markets there?
