About
Munich City, Third Reich, Dachau, Salzburg, Nuremberg and Neuschwanstein and other Ludwig II Castles. A tour with Curt Milburn is like having a welcoming family friend show you around Munich. Curt's been called "The Wikipedia of History". He specializes in small group and private tours. Tours are tailor-made and Curt finds out what YOU want to see. His City Tours go beyond canned, set routes. You'll see the famous sites, architecture, learn about kings, Hitler, foods and beer. Our Third Reich Tours delve deep into more than when, but why and how the Nazis came to power and you'll see the bombed buildings of Hitler. Curt's Dachau tours are sensitive and remarkably moving and his Neuschwanstein and Castle tours are great fun. Salzburg & Nuremberg are within your reach with Big Hat Tours! Every tour is accompanied by an Apple i-Pad with hundreds of photos to put you into history.

This Big Hat tour gave us an up close and personal tour of the camp provided by Curt, an expat in Germany. Curt is amazingly knowledgeable about so much of the history of both the camp(s) and the events leading up to the takeover of Germany by the Third Reich. The tour really starts in Munich when you board the train with Curt for the 30 minute ride to the small town of Dachau. He explains how the economic conditions in Germany after WWI fostered the rise of Hitler, etc... He is a certified guide for the camp and has both written books and aided in film production re: the camp and as such is a TRUE expert!! I cannot recommend this tour enough. You will not be disappointed.

Curt is a very good guide, with great energy, easy going and knowledgeable. His tour covered everything we were interested in, with many details that we would have missed on our own. After his tour we felt like we could get more out of our stay in Munich. We appreciated all the great tips on where to find good food and place to further explore on our own.

We wanted an orientation tour of the central part of Munich, and Curt was fantastic. We walked through Marienplatz, saw the Asamkirch, and he pointed out some good places to get food in the Viktualienmarkt. We ended the tour in the place where Hitler gave his major speech.

He was interesting and well informed, and we highly recommend him!

Curt gives a great tour- he spent ample time showing us around and explaining in depth the key aspects of the camp. He had many personal stories which added to the experience, it’s evident that he is very passionate about his tours. I would certainly tour with him again and highly recommend this tour!

Curt went beyond and we really learned a ton about Dachau. Not just the camp, but all the history behind it - so we left with a deeper understanding of the why, not just the what. Would highly recommend.

We booked Curt for a walking tour / Third Reich of Munich and the very next day we scheduled a second tour to Dachau. Once again Curt exceeded our expectations. We had many questions pertaining to Dachau and we were blown away as to how much knowledge Curt has in his head. It’s pretty dang amazing and it made the tour another 5 star plus. In fact if I could Id give him an even higher rating,

Curt is without a doubt one of the most informed people that I have had the opportunity to come across. I really appreciate how he accommodated our group. He customize what we were looking for and we were beyond appreciative. His knowledge of Munich and the Third Reich is second to none. Very professional, well informed, and an overall great guy. Thank you Curt.

We visited Munich in early June, 2023. Our group included me and my husband, along with our 26 year-old daughter and her boyfriend. After a lengthy search of local Munich guides, we chose Curt for 2 days of touring. Curt toured us through Munich one day, and through Nuremberg the next. I would give Curt 6 or more stars if I could, but I guess I'm limited to 5.

We met Curt in Munich’s Marienplatz. Before starting our tour, Curt listed different options for a day long Munich tour. He then listened carefully to our preferences and tailored the tour to match. We like to gain an overall history of a city, see the most important sites, and learn details which make a city come alive. Also, as my husband’s father served in Germany during WWII, we were interested in Munich and Nuremburg history during that catastrophic period.

As other reviews describe, Curt has a seemingly unlimited command of facts and stories. I appreciated how often he provided very good explanations of why history in these cities evolved the way it did. For example, he described how the post WWI German economic collapse laid the groundwork for Hitler and National Socialism’s rise. He explained how, once Hitler became chancellor, he and his party drove the economy back to basically full employment and prosperity. In other words, though in our minds we may not understand the rise of Naziism, Curt painted the picture of how this became incrementally accepted. It was that type of historical knowledge and insight, along with his witty personality, that made Curt one of our best tour guides ever.

Curt's use of iPad photos during the tour was a great accompaniment, helping to add vital context. As a post-tour bonus, the PDF book he'll provide is a super enjoyable, engaging read.

We've used private tour guides in many cities, and Curt is very competitively priced. We like that he charges a flat rate for the tour rather than by person. While pricier per person than most large group tours, the personal attention, ability to hear everything that's said, and chance to have a discourse rather than just be spoken to is well worth the price. It was a wonderful value.

Book Curt and you won’t be disappointed!

We actually did both the Dachau tour and Munich City with Curt. Both were very informative, interesting and so much better than going on our own and trying to figure things out. It was also very beneficial to have someone that spoke very clear English - we did some group tours over our vacation and some were very difficult to understand. Highly recommend Curt - he is a wealth of knowledge and makes history interesting even for non-history buffs.

I am in the midst of a 2+ week trip through Europe with a very bright 20-year-old young man. On the day we arrived in Munich from the US, we did a Third Reich tour with Curt. Curt held the interest of both this 50-year-old male and my young adult co-traveler in our jet lagged states. He provided a truly outstanding overview of Nazi history in Munich and showed us many interesting sites. Curt was particularly great at interacting with the 20-year-old, encouraging him to share his knowledge and avoiding being dismissive when the 20-year-old wasn't quite right on a fact or two. Highly recommend!
