Very cool and interesting bit of history. Fantastic that this door to the old city still stands. We were not able to venture up inside to the exhibit, but we were able to walk around and take it all in.

A place with long history. Near to Viktualien Market and Globetrotter shop. I wouldn't say a must visit place.

There were some mulled wine and snack shops around the Christmas time which opens until late. It was nice to have a quick drink in a lively atmosphere.

This is a beautifully preserved example of a town gate. The paintings are good and it was very close to Marienplatz and also there is a metro station right nearby. It is worth a short visit for sure.

This is a beautiful example of an original gate from the city walls. It has lovely frescoes on it and is well worth spending a little while wandering around both sides. Whilst we were there, there was a little Christmas market (food/drink stalls) in its shadows. There is also a museum based in the gate itself.

A wonderfully preserved example of a city gate with beautiful murals above the entrance. Easy walking distance from the city centre.

Constructed in 1337, this is one of the four main gates through the wall that used to surround medieval Munich. The gate with frescoes was restored in the 18th century. Cafe integrated into the structure is pretty good. Great photo op.

Isator, one of what used to be part of the city wall, from the medieval ages until the 18th century, was a defensive fortification. We were there one day when we visited the Deutsches Museum. The Munich marathon was being held that day so there was much excitement on the streets. The old gates, all four of the remaining ones,... More
