This will help you understand why Ludwig II had his passion for his 3 castles - it's a genetic flaw! Wonderful experience to see the lavish lifestyle of the Wittenburgs, but don't do the Resident and the Treasury on the same day unless you are in really good physical shape - lots of stairs and walking.

The Residence was a majestic and very large building which apparently was contructed from 1500 to 1850 in various stages. it was originally used by Bavarian rulers until 1918.It has also housed important foreign visitors as well as being a Museum.

Certainly worth a visit. Set off ample time and grab the audio guide to get the nuances of the many rooms. The Treasury is especially fascinating

One of the better museums and manors I have visited. The decor within is on a grand scale with many rooms to view, while not being a grand cost! Combining the cost to see treasury, house, and theater, is worth it! And you can leave for lunch and return later to finish viewing with you ticket. Inside fancy moldings are... More

We walked around this beautiful place in total awe of its opulence and grandeur! Some of it was destroyed in the war, but the restoration has been sympathetically done without trying to make it like it had been. We went independently (not on a tour) and was able to take each room at our leisure. This is one of those... More

The detailed restorations of this palace was impressive, especially considering the devastation from the War. Buy the combined Residence and Treasury tour ticket. There is free bag check. Photos without flash are allowed but no bags.

My husband & I both loved the Munich Residence. Allow yourselves at least a couple of hours to visit it properly. The beautiful paintings, frescos, ornate furniture and religious & historic items were a delight to view. We were constantly wowed as we went from room to room. An audio guide is included in the price so you can learn... More

Shows off the wealth and art of the Bavarian kings. Like the Vatican Museum but 1% as crowded. Massive collection of frescoes, portraits, and statues. The main tour is plenty enough for a single afternoon visit.
