Clear parallels with Rome in this section of Munich, and a lovely and impressive place to wander....enjoyable even in the rain.

The Maximilianeum is a building for parliament in Munich. It was built as the home of a gifted students' foundation. Then became parliament building. The principal was King Maximilian II of Bavaria, who started the project in 1857. The leading architect was Friedrich Bürklein. The building is situated on the bank of river Isar before the Maximilian Bridge and marks the eastern end of the Maximilianstrasse. The facade was decorated with arches, columns, mosaics and niches filled with busts. The building was extended on its back for new parliament offices, several modern wings were added in 1958, 1964, 1992 and again in 2012.

When I was in Munich I spent most of my time walking around the city without using any map. And after the sun gone down, I was walking along the Isar river. Around 11pm I suddenly recognized a big statue on a bridge. Taking a walk to the statue just to realized that there was a beautiful building right in front of my eyes was one of my best experience in this city. The place was still light up at night and there were some local people at the place chilling and talking.
If you want to get to the building on foot, just walk along the river. By tram or underground trains there are also many ways to reach the place, very well located.

When we came around the corner we were pretty surprised with this building. And then especially the beauty of it. Look at the picture I took because the colours of autumn make it extra beautiful.

I was on the hop on/off bus and saw this amazing building and I had to get off at the next stop to see up close. The historic building was built in 1874.
