Situated in the southern side of the English Gardens is the Monopteros, a circular colonnade built on top of a small hill with nice views of the surrounding area. The design of the colonnade is very much in a Greek style with it ten Ionic columns supporting the roof, plus a slightly anachronistic colour scheme of polychrome stone painting adorn the ceilings.

The Monopteros is a small Greek-style temple that was built in 1836.
It's located a bit north of the Chinese Tower, built on top of a (artificial?) hill.
Looks nice and cannot be missed.

Monopteros gives you a nice view of the greens of the garden, and the adjoining areas of the city. Easy walk to the top because of the gradual slope of the pathway.

The English garden is certainly a beautiful park and it is always pleasant to have a stroll along its paths. Nonetheless, I have the impression that most people tend to overrate it. In particular, the Monopteros can be so disappointing! It offers a pretty nice view over the towers of Munich, but nothing else, apart from wastes (including used condoms - sometimes), graffitis, and the feeling that the Munich authorities do not care so much about this place. And that is a real pity.

We decided to walk in the garden after our dinner at the Chinese Tower to watch the sunset but it was clear we were not the only ones. The Monopteros was filled with other young people enjoying the last part of the day from this hilltop monument. We got some great pictures here and you can see all of the steeples above the trees. Great visit for sunset.

This is a nice spot to visit when you are in the English Gardens as you get lovely views from up there and the children really enjoyed the climb and running up and down the grass hill. Would recommend if in the area.

The views here are fantastic and well worth the climb up the hill in the Englischer Garten. Enjoy your time here!

One of the interesting things to see at the English Garden is the Monopteros, a Greek style pavilion. In short, this is a small, circular and roofed structure supported by columns. This is the work of German architect Leo Von Klenze in 1837 and a neat landmark to look out for during visits to the garden.

You will be able to find Monopteros quite easily from within the massive garden grounds. It is situated on a small hilltop, making it visible from some distance. If you do walk up to the Monopteros, you'll find a a nicely maintained structure as well as a nice lookout point for viewing much of the English Garden.

The Monopteros is a round Ancient Greek style temple which stands on a small man-made hill in the English Garden, once you arrive at this point you have views back to Munich city. The temple is not large but is spectacular enough to view up close with its columns and pretty painted ceiling. The temple commands most of the hill with most visitors sitting on the steps of the temple.
