Wittelsbacherplatz i is this smallish plaza close to Odeonsplatz and Felherrnhalle, just off the main touristy area. I came here a couple of times while in Munich and both days the plaza was filled with food and beer stalls, so you can't see much of the plaza, the buildings around it, nor the equestrian statue of Maximillian I of Bavaria.
None of the food (or beer) was that appealing to me.

We enjoyed spending time at Wittelsbacherplatz during a recent visit to the Old Town of Munich. At this time of year, there is a fun Medieval themed Christmas market with fun stalls setup selling local and traditional foods, gluhwein as well as gifts and Christmas items. There was a stage setup with themed performances and stall keepers were dressed in period attire. Great atmosphere for locals and tourists to enjoy a Christmas market with a bit more character.
Here you can also find beautiful palace buildings and an equestrian monument to the Elector Maximilian I, the work of Bertel Thorvaldsen in 1839. These are worth time to enjoy when visiting Wittelsbacherplatz and spending time sightseeing in this area of the city.

This Christmas market is very fun as it’s medieval themed, it was crowded on a Saturday, but well worth checking it out.

This is theme Christmas market, everything look as the medieval ages. The people working in each hut is dress up, and if you are lucky you can find Saint Nikolas wondering around (He wears a very elaborated and detail costume, worth to see). The food is really good, I enjoyed some kind of pasta with mushrooms sauce, and it was delicious!
Don´t forget to try Glühwein or Feuerzangenbowle. Two typical drinks for this time of the year. Be aware that these drinks contain alcohol and they are quite sweet.

Visited there on a Friday evening for the yearly medieval Christmas market. To our surprise the amount of visitors and tourists was less than what I had experienced the years before.
This place is one of my three favorite Christmas markets in Munich (together with Residenz and Marienplatz) , all of them being in easy walking distance.
This market is having not just a medieval theme but also offers a variety of drinks and foods that can't, or at least can't be commonly, found on other markets.
The food options are good for people loving meat and vegans at the same time , same applies with alcohol and no alcohol.
Only downside is that this places closes down already at 8pm and at this point also most of the drink / food vendors stop serving.
If you are in or around Munich and like Christmas markets , this one is a must - but make sure to arrive early.

We stumbled across this Christmas market was going to the residents. I really nice compact market with very traditional stalls with all staff wearing traditional German outfits. Lots of places to eat and drink and buy traditional German products. An amazing feel, and amazing smell and very festive place to be. Highly recommended.

Stumbled upon this Christmas market by chance, and I couldn’t have been happier because it quickly became my favourite. The theme of this market is Medieval times, and it was truly wonderful to visit it. I loved the atmosphere and the stands. Pity that the square isn’t very big, and therefore it gets crowded even more than the others. However, I think it’s very well worth going to visit it because it’s truly wonderful and unique.

This is a small square shaped public space off Brienner Strasse near the larger Odeonsplatz in the Old Town. There are attractive Neo-classical palace buildings and an equestrian monument to the Elector Maximilian I that was designed by the prominent sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen in 1839.
The square was unfortunately blocked off with covered gate sections during our recent visit as they prepared for summer event or market that was being set up. Fortunately, we could still view the Maximilian I monument fairly given the height of the equestrian statue.

I went to Wittelsbacherplatz on a Wednesday or Thursday evening because I had heard about a medieval Christmas market there and was eager to check it out. When I got there, I could barely get close to any of the stalls. They looked really cute and the people were all dressed up. I would have loved it if not for the crowd. I had to push through swarms of people to walk around at all. I just ended up forcing my way through the market and straight out without buying anything.
I would definitely recommend going there, but during a much less crowded time.

I did a free city walking tour and our guide ended the tour here in this plaza. The Christmas Market is much smaller but interesting. The vendors are wearing period clothing and selling some unique items. Who knew I was going to see this?!
