Amazing place, quite hidden from outside, you risk to miss it and it would be a shame because it is wonderful. I visited it alone, there was nobody and it was very quite. I had the time to go around and visit the different rooms....More
My wife had been here before but I was assured that this was a "must see" place. The interior decoration is quite stunning and it is so bright inside because the colour white predominates on the walls and ceiling. The quality of paintings and imagery...More

This medieval church was refitted in Baroque style and houses a wonderful icon of the Virgin Mary said to have been painted by St, Luke. There are several other such paintings in Europe but this one is at least a genuine Greek icon.
What a fabulous church and well worth taking the time to see. The artwork is amazing and even if you are not a church lover, you will love this one as it is immaculate and different. Baroque style at its best.

This church actually pre-dates the Regensburg cathedral by about 50 years. The gilded interior is striking as is the art, especially the ceiling which was applied in the baroque style. There are also some really fantastic carvings throughout the great church.
I returned for a second visit and was able to concentrate more on the details of both the plaster and the painting. If you are lucky (like I was) you might get to hear the new organ that Pope Benedict dedicated.
