Very interesting early Gothic church, relatively simple but still remarkable. A small plaque indicates that the Argentinian Cardinal Bergoglio stayed here for several months. Pope Francis has been here since 2013.

Though an Ev. church, there is more to see at the interior than in other Ev. churches. The Franciscan monastery Rothenburg o.d. Tauber is a former monastery of the Friars Minor (Franciscan Conventuals) in Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Bavaria in the Diocese of Bamberg. The former Abbey Church is today Evangelical Lutheran parish church. The monastery consecrated to the Virgin Mary, founded in 1281 by Hermann von Horn, Mayor and others. 1548, it died out during the Reformation. A Latin school, later an apartment for Pastor widows was only placed in the buildings of the voluntarily abandoned monastery. After 1805 the buildings served as salt magazine. Parts of the installation (cloister, refectory and others) were demolished, much of the inventory destroyed or sold (like for example the so-called "Wiblinger altar" by Tilman Riemenschneider). The Franciscan Church is the oldest church of Rothenburg ob der Tauber and celebrated its 700 years consecration jubilee in 2009. The church is located in the "Herrngasse". Highlights: the Franciscan altar carved by Tilman Riemenschneider, the windows made by the artist Johannes Schreiter, a lot of tombstones and memorials of local partician families, the neighbouring landed gentry and the "Lettner" a wooden division between the monks' gallery and the seating area for laymen.

This is a very simple church in a very old city. You must remember this is a small town and the church is to scale

Tried a couple of times to go in but each time the place was locked, just bad timing I guess.
Situated in what we understand was the most wealthiest street in town it sure looks grand,
Apparently it is the oldest Church in town also so there must be a lot of history involved .
Just down from the main square so easy to find .

This church is unique in that it has a double nave and also was great to hear a singing group put on a concert. No heat in there but pretty amazing to hear with the excellent acoustics if you get the chance for that experience.

This Church is conveniently located and is free. While simply adorned, that is part of its charm. If you enjoy superb wood carving, you'll find it here as well. A church doesn't have to grand and opulent to be enjoyed, and this very old church (1200's) is worth a stop.

Nothing special. Just another church. Not a highlight of this beautiful city. I wouldn't waste my time here.

I have visited more exciting churches but I did stop in for a quick peek. I enjoy seeing churches but others may not. It is centrally located so stop in for a peek if walking by.

This old (1285) church is the oldest in town. It is very simple outside and in. There is little artwork inside but the altar is another church by Tilman Riemenschneider. It is located near the Castle Gate and the Herrnbrunnen.
