It looks alike Charles bridge in Praque, both of them have many old statues. We walked there going to visit the castle. It was a sunny day and lots of locals and tourists had a drink there, like in a party.Visited July 2023Travelled with friendsWritten October 25, 2023

It has been rebuilt several times over the centuries, most recently in the 18th Century. Now it is a popular place to enjoy being outside, meet up with friends/loved ones and maybe have a glass of Frankonian wine (there is a shop on the edge of the bridge that sells glasses of Frankonian wine).Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten April 11, 2024

It was interesting to watch a river cruise ship pass underneath it.Visited July 2024Travelled soloWritten August 17, 2024
- KatielouAustraliaHobart, Australia1,910 contributionsWine with a viewThis Old Main Bridge was built from 1473-1543. Around 1730, several statues of saints and important figures from Würzburg’s history were placed on the Old Bridge. It has Gothic-style architecture with twelve arches spanning approximately 185 meters across River Main. While taking in the views one can enjoy a glass of wine from one of the many vendors on the bridge. This tradition has been carried out for years making it an integral part of local culture.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten August 17, 2024

You have to at least walk on the bridge to admire the statues and learn a bit about the history of the area.
The bridge may be crowded with wine drinkers. Just offer to take their photos!
The views across the Main and back into town are excellent.

I find amazing people who leave heartless reviews ie "I don't know what can attract people here..." I won't say more about this.
For a start this was one of the stop from our Budapest~Amsterdam cruise. And I would ad it was also, I was tempted to use 'MOST', but in fairness to the rest of our trip, will use 'one of the most' rewarding place with visited. I don't know what makes people tick But I loved that Bridge. On one end it shows the town and behind, way above, a magnificent building in the midst of manicured vineyard. The other end also has a little of the town with a bushy background. Yes you can enjoy a glass of wine there whilst you're enjoying the area. Wurzburg has also much more to offer in its town.
After being back a few years in Sydney. I needed the attention of a Hearing specialist and found one, would you believe, native from this lovely town! This certainly revived my wonderful memory of this place.
As such I read a little more about it, and was amazed to learn that one of the 12 statues on this bridges was depicting the father of one very important people whom I had to learn about during my years in primary school in my almost forgotten native France... None other than Charlemagne!
***Why I am limited to 2019 ad 220? I went in June 2016!

This bridge crosses the river and gives you a nice view. But more importantly it is a hang out for people at the end of the day to buy a glass of wine and stand on the bridge to socialize with other people. We were standing next to a couple and found out that they were from Hamburg on a 4 day holiday. We got to talking and it turned out that their first names were the same as ours. Fun times. There are places you can buy wine and they make you deposit 5 euros for the glass. You get it back once you turn the glass in.

Stopping by the bridge for a glass of wine is a must. There are shops which sell glasses of wine at the town end of the bridge and down on the river. You will pay a 5€ deposit for your glass which will be refunded when you return the glass. Do NOT set your glass on the bridge! Not sure why the woman was yelling at me but it was relative to placing my glass on the bridge

Go grab your wine one evening and enjoy the moment. You can buy your wine from the restaurant on the bridge. It is very beautiful in the evenings, you can see the city, it is cool in the evenings, you can take a jacket on. It was a great experience for us. You can't come to Würzburg without drinking wine on the bridge... We visited again in the morning after our daily run, you can have your coffee and look at the city in the daylight.

I was on this bridge with my girlfriend during a day in Würzburg. The structure, for pedestrian use only. crosses the Main River at the city center. In each tower that supports the bays there are statues depicting various personalities related to the city. At the entrance on the side of the town there are numerous bars selling wine and street food. Many people flock to this area both to have a drink and to take beautiful photographs with the river as a backdrop.

Small idyllic bridge from old town of Wurzburg to the big castle on the top of the hill.
The bridge has some nice statues and an amazing view to the castle. There are cafes on both side of the river. And after walking up the hill to see the caste in summer heat we had some refreshments at the water mill restaurant. There are also “hole” in the wall serving where you can buy wine and other refreshments to enjoy at the bridge.
