Neighbourhood: Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.

The oldest in Berlin. Completed in 1877 and in use until 1952.
Used in Nazi times by the SA as a concentration camp, for those interned without trial and murdered.

Great venue, up on the hill behind the water tower, great ambiance, laid back, nice view of the neighborhood and the main tower. Sport park and playground at the foot of the hillock. Nice visit.

Beautiful building in a nice park. Around it are many bars and restaurants. Regretfully it has a history of being a camp during the nazi period, as is indicated on signs.

This place is very quiet and one of the great Berliner landmark. I am lucky i can go inside to this place, the architecture is stunning and very interesting interior with unbelievable echoes when we walk around, sound bit creepy when we hear our own step from behind us when we circling this labyrinth interior. Very well recommended for those who love history and architecture.

I took a self-guided walking tour of the Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood in Berlin in September 2018. I passed the Wasserturm and took some photos. It is an interesting landmark.

Wasserturm Prenzlauer Berg is an amazing looking structure that was built in 1877 .
It's one of the landmark buildings in this city and is a really outstanding piece of architecture and it's huge,we were on a 10 day holiday in Berlin and from the 32 floor of the Park Inn by Radisson Berlin Alexanderplatz where we were staying we could easily make Wasserturm which is located in Prenzlauer Berg.
A fantastic building in a wonderful district and well worth checking out.

Water tour built in 1877 and in use till 1952. It contained apartments for its workers that are still occupied to-day. Striking building located in a charming area of Prenzlauer Berg near Kollwitzplatz.

Although this place is called "water tower", in fact, it's a cistern or water catchment that has been buried to form a hill that is public green space with nice views of the surrounding neighborhood. It's quite a pleasant spot for a stroll to look at the greenery as well as the old buildings that are part of the water delivery system.

The water tower is located in the Kollwitzkiez; when you take a walk through Prenzlauer Berg you should definitely take a look at the impressive tower, which was completed in 1877.
