The most recognizable symbol of Berlin

Great historic spot. A must for every Berlin visitor. Amazing feeling to pass through the gate that for almost 40 years has been dividing Germany.

Beautiful building in Berlin. Go here to get some nice pictures, it's really the perfect spot! And it's close to the Richestag as well, so visit the two attractions at once.

Marvellous memorial to a re-united city and a proud German nation. We loved walking to it, under it and through it.

This was our first visit to Berlin and it was moving and wonderful to share the history of this divided and now unified city by walking from our hotel through the park right up to the historic Brandenburg Gate.

It goes without saying that the Brandenburg Gate is an iconic 'must see' in Berlin. Standing on the border of what was once East and West Germany it conjures memories of those dark days of the Cold War. It is quite a remarkable experience to stand under or in front of the gate if this is one's first visit to... More

We were so excited to see the Brandenburg Gate. To think what happened here just 70 years ago when Adolf Hitler was in control. Berlin has changed so much since I was here 30 years ago. Brandenburg Gate should definitely be on the top of the list as a must see while in Berlin

Awesome history freebie! This place has seen it all, every major event in Germany has a link to this place! If you want a really good photo I would get there early to avoid everyone trying to do the same!

Awesome sight to see at night. That fact that it is still standing and what it represent is amazing.

We couldn't get that close to the Brandenburg Gate as at the time we were in Berlin it was all fenced off due to the member zone that had been set up for the Football, it was well worth a visit to only wish have i could have gotten close to it, to see in to more detail.

We took a long easy flat stroll to the gate. On arrival you can't help but feel a little gulp in your throat. This is it, it's where so much went on. A beautiful piece of architecture with that marvellous sculpture on top. Even on an August day, it wasn't crowded and had an air of respect in the area.... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
