This is much more than just a street - one of the city's main thoroughfares and historically important as the location of Checkpoint Charlie. The road is actually 3.5 kms long and as one would expect bustling with shops, restaurants and various other sites and attractions. It also houses one of the cities main transport hubs.

Friedrichstraße runs in a straight line through Mitte and Kreuzberg. One of the city’s most important roads is 3.5 kilometers long.
Friedrichstraße is named after Elector Friedrich III, who ruled here from 1688 to 1713.
The famous Checkpoint Charlie border crossing is located on this street.

If you like shopping, then Friedrichstrasse is the place to be. I lived on this street for about a month in 2012. It was a nice street to walk. In the morning, there would be little or no people. In the evening, however, it was filled with people. If you like shopping or just want to go for a walk, I recommend going here during your visit to Berlin.

This is one of the most popular streets to visit while in Berlin. Great place to walk around, do some shopping or grab something to eat at the many restaurants here. This is also the street where Checkpoint Charlie is which I would say is a must see historical site.

The Friedrichstrasse bahnhof station contains the uniqe Kindertransport memorial statue, created by Israel sculptor, Frank Meisler, who himself was one of the children whos life was saved, when he boarded the train as part of the operation that lasted for 10 months between Nov. 1938 and the start of WWII on Sept. 1939.

Because I love big cities and I am what one can call a born-urban person, I obviously enjoyed the vicinity of Friedrichstrase to our hotel. In fact, I can say that we stayed pretty much in the very centre of Berlin, where Friedrichstrase intersects Unter den Linden. There are a lot of shops, restaurants, terraces, a continuously moving mob of people and, of course, the perpetual construction sites of modernising Germany.

This street has everything for everyone. Many high and mid end stores and many cool places to eat. It is very busy, however very safe.

Main, busy street - coming off the S line, we came to a nice christmas market - big city vibe! however, just on the way there a lovely staue to comemorate the nazis death trains - where you see the mother holding her children just before (or after) - the selection - a little reminder of the dark past of this great city

Another main area of shopping, but it is near to some of the main sights, Check point Charlie, Topography of Horror, but in essence a good shopping area, which you can use as a stop for refreshment in between sightseeing.

There are various hotels in this area - I often stayed in the Maritime proArte. But there are plenty of other hotels (Melia, nh) - and also some very high end hotels (Westin, Adlon). I think, in TripAdvisor you might also use the map function to find nearby hotels.
