The Philarmonic is not very impressive in its architecture, but it has a great acoustic and that´s what counts. We visited a free concert on Tuesday in the hallway of the Philarmonic, it was very crowded, so it´s better to come more than 15 minutes in advance.

We saw the Andrej Hermlin swing band orchestra in the chamber music room of the Philharmonic. Ticket buying (online from the UK) was relatively easy, admission was straightforward, the cloakrooms were great and free, toilets plentiful, acoustics were excellent, seats comfortable, and the music happaened to be sublime.

I have never had but a great experience at this glorious place. The acoustics are a marvel and the qualtiy of performace is extraordinary. It seems to propel the performers to new heights.

We attended a concert by Prague Philharmonics: 9th symphony from Beethoven and Carmina Burana from Carl Orff. The seats were from mid-price range and we had a very good view on the orchestra and choir, however th acoustics were average, especially when the solists sang, one could not hear well. The place is also badly ventilated and queues for drinks... More

This is a modern concert hall to hear classical music in a well designed acoustic setting. It is as expensive as all similar classical venues, has distracting tv cameras filming the main performances for their pay to view channel, and has a very unwelcoming mostly seat free atrium to grab a pretzel or drink before and during the performance. Be... More

went to the Tuesday open show (for free). had to stand in line for about an hour. there aren't really seats - people sat on staircases, tables, and pressed against the wall in the hall. still good acoustics. the show is about 40 mins. bathroom is free!

We were lucky enough to visit for the lunchtime concert on Tuesday. I listen to Classic FM on the radio on and off- but the experience of being in the lobby with hundreds of other people listening to such fine music was amazing and somewhat humbling...the musicians were so talented and I agree with other reviewers that every note could... I've always heard of the incredible acoustics of this Hall and we got to hear them last night for a concert by the Deutsches Symphonie. Everything I expected. Beautiful sound and the concert was equally impressive. Only negative point is that the interior spaces, while efficient, are a bit shopworn. Needs at least some new carpets in the corridors.

The most amazing musical experience of my life. In the Philharmonic you can hear every note, in a way I have not heard before. Would return to Berlin just to visit this wonderful concert hall again.

Staying in Charlottenburg

Neighbourhood Profile
Breathe in Berlin’s royal past while walking through the gardens of beautiful Charlottenburg Palace, which lends its name to this well-heeled neighbourhood. Here you'll find some of the oldest homes in the city: upper-class apartment buildings with ornate facades and marble-floored foyers line the cobblestone streets. Stroll by sophisticated restaurants, through little parks, or around Lake Lietzensee. Window shop down Kurfürstendamm, the most renowned high-end shopping street in Berlin, where you can find all the big designer names. In the evening, visit one of the old theatres close by Zoo Station which were nightlife hot spots in the 1920s, or dine in one of the many international restaurants around Savignyplatz before heading to other parts of town for a night out.
