Beautiful building and what a lot of people do not know, at one o'clock you can join a free tour with guide through the building! In 30-45 mins. Be in time at the restaurant on the right side of the building

The old concert hall is overshadowed by The Philharmonie as for acoustics and style, it was well restored under DDR. The French Cathedral next to it, make the Gendarmemarkt the most impressive square in Berlin

A beautiful building in the heart of Berlin. Very friendly staff and great acoustics. The organ was in action for our visit. What a great sound!

Located in historic Gendarmenmarkt, the Konzerthaus is a beautiful building and major classical music center housing the Berliner Konzerthaus Orchester with its conductor, Iván Fischer. The Konzerthaus, built in the early 1800's was originally a theater but it was severely damaged in WWII - it was restored and reopened as a concert hall in 1984. Its three halls host many... More

I was exploring Berlin and came across the concert hall. I was impressed with the building and statues located by the steps and the roof.

Konzerthaus is one of the landmark buildings situated between Französischer Dom and Deutscher Dom at Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin. Built originally as a theatre house between 1818 and 1821, its function has been that of a concert hall since the post WWII era. Konzerthaus is neo-classical in style with an impressive column lined portico, decorative pediment as well as a bronze... More

I've been to the Konzerthaus twice this trip and had seats in the stalls. The first was to see the Dresdner Kreuzchor and Philharmonie and the second was Truls Mork and the Bergen Philharmonic. Both were special occasions. The architecture is classic and opulent, the acoustics are great and the Grosse Saal just the right size. There is a good... More

Our Princess Cruise Tour took us to the Gendarmenmarkt Square where there are three prominent buildings including the French Church(Huguenot)...the German Church and the Concert Hall(Konzerthaus). We did not have the time to go inside but from outside it was a beautiful building located in a very popular square.

Thank Richard S

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
