The building is beautiful and deserves a visit, however the shops inside are quite expensive and the feeling you get is not the same as Lafayette from Paris or Marseille. Only resemblance is with the gourmet department underground which is quite well equipped.

An amazing delicatessen style store with a vast array of fresh meats, cheeses, wines, salads and other foodstuffs, beautifully presented. The coffee and pastries are superb too. Do not go here feeling hungry as you will end up spending a LOT of money! ;-)

Gorgeous food basement (I could live there), and various high end beauty and accessories on the ground floor. The place to shop with someone else's credit card. It is possible to spend 200E on face cream, who knew?

No need to waste your time if you have had already visit Lafayette in Paris. Many big brand cannot found in here. However, the food found in basement may be worth to visit as it have oyster bar and other choices. After hours walk is good to have a drink to take rest! Also free WIFI is provided.

Galeries Lafayette is a French based department store with a multi-storey branch along Friedrichstrasse in Berlin. Opening hours are 10am to 8pm daily. Here you find a range of French brand clothes, accessories, beauty products and food items. However, shopping wasn't the reason for our December visit. We wanted to see what Xmas displays were like here, having much enjoyed... More

Galleries Lafayette in Paris is always beautifully decorated for Christmas so we visited the Berlin store to check out how it compared. There was a fun snowstorm in a "funnel"which was very stylish as one would expect. There were lots of French upmarket brands on sale in the store.

Berlin has so many fascinating modern buildings to explore and be inspired by and the interior glass core of this store are definitely worth a look- we literally went there for 'window' shopping...

This is a well stocked department store with some places to sit down to eat as well. I did buy ome macarons and while I had high hopes, I am afraid that they were only average.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
