If you are interested in ethnography and Asian Art, then this is well worth a visit. The leafy suburb of Dahlem where it is located, is also very pleasant in itself, and a nice contrast with central Berlin. We visited on a Sunday, so the museum was very quiet and peaceful.

I can not understand how this things, more of them without a real value that you can find in anlot of souvenirs shops in their countries, can be considered a Museum... Only the Mesoamerica part is interesting.

It is out of the path in Dahlem, but the collections are extemely worth seeing. Takes 2-3 hours to see.

I wanted to visit the Japanese art exhibit on paintings and woodblock paintings. The woodblock prints were really beautiful although I wish there were more pieces. Both the Japanese and Chinese paintings were good. I also visited the temporary exhibit on the ethnic groups in the Golden Triangle. That was really interesting - covering the various indigenous groups and their... More

This is a fascinating place and I was so glad to have been advised to visit as it will soon be closed down. Many of the artefacts will be transferred to the Kulturforum in the centre of Berlin and housed in the reconstructed Berlin Palace. It was engrossing to wander around the ethnographic art treasures. Because of it’s out of... More

This museum is living his last months. It will be transfered to Humboldt forum on the Museum Island. For the moment it is a bit far, but it is so nice, do not hesitate to go there!

I am usually a 1 1 /2 hrs. museum type, but I managed 4 hrs. here with no problem. The collection itself is stunning in its breadth and quality. I would have liked more explanations in English, and the audio guide was quite limited, but I have the feeling that much of that will be corrected when they move to... More
