This is the station where thousands of people were transported to the East and met their deaths in the concentration camps. The bleakness of the place and the isolation of the place makes one think of what it must have been like to experience this....More

A memorial to the transports of the Berlin Jews to the concentration or death camps. Chilling. If the holocaust is important for you, this memorial is a must. If you visit, note that the last transport left Pier 17 as the Russian artilery shells were...More

Simple memorial to the many Jews who were transported from this one time station. The edges of the (long) platform commemorate the dates and numbers of people taken from here to almost certain death. A quiet spot for reflection.

We did this as part of Nadav's Jewish Heritage Tour of Berlin. Really makes history come to life as you see and feel some of the atmosphere and terrible experiences that occurred here. A must see attraction for anyone interested in the history of this...More

This is a simple yet incredibly touching Holocaust memorial. When we visited on a cold afternoon in early October there was just one other person there making it a perfect place for quiet reflection about the enormity of this atrocity.

One of the most moving holocaust I've seen exhibits anywhere. Very moving. The historical context and way in which Germany has acknowledged its role in this attrocity is evident from this and the other memorials nearby. An easy and worthwhile trip from central Berlin

On May Day we took the M19 bus to Grunewald, just to see the woods and the suburbs. Steps away from the bus terminus we found a rail station and a sign saying Gleis 17. Up the stairs we found empty and lonely metal plates...More

A suburban station in a nice middle class district of Berlin. Platform 17 is covered in metal plates about 2m by 1m. Every plate has a number, a date and a destination. Every plate represents one train and every destination is a concentration camp or...More

This site is in more or less original state, and by it's simplicity and common form - we all know train stations, platforms and tracks - gives a visitor the shivers! Some flowers may be found there, in any corner, placed by an unknown visitor...and...More
