About
The victory column was built in 1873 to celebrate Prussia's victory in the Franco-German War. It was moved to its present location in the Tiergarten in 1938. You can go to the top via 270 steps to see great views of Berlin.

- JulieMDublin, Ireland99 contributionsFun and Inexpensive VisitThis was a fun and inexpensive site to visit. We walked the 2km from the Brandenburg Gate to the tower and paid €4 to enter the museum and climb the tower. If you're claustrophobic you might want to give the climb a miss as the staircase is narrow and has many people climbing and descending at the same time. The views from the top are great however and worth the climb!Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 5, 2023
- Suzanne D25 contributionsWorth visiting, beautiful in the winter.Missed visiting last time I was in Berlin, but glad I made the effort. It was well worth the seeing and the snow made it even more magical. Didn’t have time to climb to the top, but I’ll definitely be back to do that next time.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten December 1, 2023
- June ASurrey, United Kingdom2,754 contributionsHuge and impressive monumentThis is a huge monument and impressive monument which can be seen from some considerable distance. You can walk to it through Tiergarten although it takes longer than you think and climb all the way to the top, which I wish I had done. It gives me an excellent reason though to go back.Visited June 2023Travelled soloWritten May 25, 2024
- THINGS2LIVE4Rocky River, Ohio2,680 contributionsTiergarten Park Must SeeThis is a Prussian Monument from the 1800s in Tiergarten Park. There are unique underground tunnels that take you under the street to the monument. Make sure that you go to the top. - Eric M4 contributionsA beautiful sightIt was a beautiful monument with the street leading right back to Brandenburg Gate. There are handful of other statues near the column paying tribute to Prussian Generals of long ago. It was worth the stroll.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten August 15, 2024
- brixton456Indianapolis, Indiana313 contributionsWorth A VisitThis monument was built to celebrate Prussia's victory in the Franco-German War. It sits in the middle of a big roundabout. You can access it by using underground walkways on either side of the roundabout. You can then walk to the top of the monument for nice views of the surrounding park. There is a fee for access to the top of the monument. There are many scars on the monument from the Battle for Berlin that remain. Getting to this monument is about a 10 minute car ride or a 25 minute walk from the Brandenburg Gate.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten August 27, 2024

Walked through the Tiergarten and came across this impressive monument to victory over Prussia in 1864, that was then topped with the 35 ton statute of the goddess Victoria after victory over Austria and France a few years later. It is in the middle of the roundabout but accessed via underpasses. Can walk the 285 steps to the top, where, for 3.50€, you have a fabulous view of Berlin at a fraction of the cost of the TV tower. On the downside, had to wheeze up the steps in a facemask which wasn't good, but they are passing places. There is an exhibition at the botton and a cafe with toilet across the road. Also nearby are three large statutes, the largest of which is of Bismark. Well worth a visit. I didn't notice any public transport here.

Interesting and beautifully decorated column located in the Tiergarten. Access is from the four columned buildings at the corners of the roundabout (don’t try and cross the road) and you can climb to the top if you wish. If not just standing at the foot of the column will give you an idea off the scale and the motifs on the base depict military grandeur.
Bellevue Palace is a short walk and the Brandenburg Gate is a slightly longer walk directly to the east.

if you are at the Brandenburg Gate you can look down the Street of the 17th of June (away from the Pariserplatz) and you can see the victory column . After a short and pleasant walk along the tree-lined avenue you arrive at this huge column commemorating the Prussian victories that is topped by a golden winged victory. Stunning.

This obelisk is probably Berlin's most famous monument. It stands on a huge roundabout in ex west Berlin, in the middle of Tiergarten.
A red granit obelisk sits on circular columned base atop which is the guilded Victory statue. It celebrates initially the victory in Prussia-Danish war and got even more powerful meaning after victories over Austria and France.
You can climb the top of it, which I did during my last visit 10y ago, but wasn't very impressed with the views - Berlin is a flat city and as it stands in the middle of Tiergarten you mostly see trees around and the Brandenburg gate.
Interesting fact: the obelisk originally stood in front of the Reichstag bldg when it was built. The Nazis moved it here in their preparation to establish Hitler's dreamtown, the world capital Germania.

The price for students (3€) is really good. In the price is included a little museum about landmarks in Berlin and Europe and the climb all the way to the Victoria statue. The view is amazing! But climbing the statue isn't something for people with claustrophobia. The stairs are small and cramped with people.

It's been a long time since I was last anywhere near the Victory Column in Berlin even though I have often driven around it over the last 40 odd years that I have been coming to this fascinating city. On this occasion, one Sunday afternoon back in August, we walked from the Reichstag through the Großer Tiergarten to the Siegessaule. I settled myself down on one of the park benches whilst the teenagers in my family walked through the tunnel to the column and then eventually climbed the stairs to the top. Maybe I should have gone with them but I was happy enough to admire the golden Greek goddess of Victory from below. The Berliners apparently refer to her as "Goldelse" - Golden Lizzy?

Which you can combine with hours of strolling through the beautiful Tiergarten.
The monument itself is special, beautifully done with fabulous mosaics on the first level.
For those who don’t like spiral staircases don’t bother trying to go to the top, but for those who are fine which such things the view from the top is spectacular and well worth all the steps.

If you have good mobility, a reasonable level of fitness and don't get dizzy from long spiral staircases, a visit to the top is definitely worth it. Especially when the weather is clear you have a beautiful view of the city. If you view the city with Bus 100, this stop is a nice break or closure.
After viewing the first ring, the big journey uphill follows. Fortunately, small plateaus are regularly made on the cast iron stairs so that the ascending and the descending can pass each other and you can rest in between.

Note to the staff: shouting on visitors is not a great way to make them feel welcome in your city and if they do not seem to understand German, shouting louder will not make them understand better.
We were there on Saturday March 5th at around lunch time and that is how we were attended, apparently the issue is we were not wearing the correct mask. We haven't been able to go inside which is no problem, it is just the way we have been attended.

Do you buy tickets beforehand or in site? And usually are there queues?

Stairs are the only available option.
You can skip it and go to the Reichstag building for the view.

Can one prepurchase the tickets online beforehand, to go to the top?(
Written January 20, 2019
We purchased at the monument and were able to walk straight up to the ticket counter. We did go in winter though and that may be a different story in summer.
Written January 22, 2019
Hi, can I buy tickets there? And how much is the cost for 2 adults? Thank you!

How far is the walk from Brandenburg Gate to the Victory Column? Google is showing me about an hour. Just want to see if this is accurate. Thank you :)
Written January 15, 2018
Half an hour at the most, unless you wander through the parkland and get distracted. Watch out for girls in the area trying to get signatures and "donations" for a youth centre - it's a scam.
