I was walking by, tired, and saw this place. From outside it looked great. But the warning not to use the door for urinating was what made me come in. I cannot say it was authentic because I have no idea what an authentic absynth bar looks like, but it looked cool. Not fancy cool, hardcore cool. I asked for... More

My hubby loves Absinthe and wanted to see what this place had to offer. The guy talked him through what was on offer and made a recommendation. The ritual of preparing the drink was good to watch. There is a huge array of Absinthe products to buy. I hate the stuff but hubby was very happy to have found the... More

This was everything I imagined it to be in terms of decor and style. I wanted to feel transported back in time and found it an incredible place to visit. I was let down by the staff though as lonely planet had made me believe they would be very friendly, knowledgable and create a bespoke service. After trying to engage... More

Wow back to the future. We saw some 300 bottles of absinth (anis drink 50 up to 89.9% alc) we tried once and had to give up too strong for us. But definitely a place to see

It's amazing to see so many different kinds of Absinthe and Absinthe bottles. The machines used to pour the absinthe are intricate and beautiful. You really learn a lot here. Unfortunately, the place is really small and it gets incredibly hot when crowded.

We went here with some trepidation as a result of other negative reviews but were pleasantly surprised. Yes there are no toilet facilities and limited place to sit down, but I think this is more of an absinthe shop then a bar. There is so much choice here. The host was friendly and helped us pick something fitting to our... More

The range of Absynth and the staff's knowledge is outstanding. However the staff need to be friendlier if they want people to come back and spend more money.

If you're an aficionado of the green fairy, or just curious, this is the place. I've never seen so many varieties of absinthe in one place. Guys that run the place are fun and offer good advice. Wife and I stopped in for an aperitif on our way out for dinner in the neighborhood.

I visit Berlin 1-2 times a year for a week or 2 or 3. I come to Absinth Depot Berlin multiple times per visit. If good absinth were legal in the USA, I would hire Ross and the rest of the team here to help create more shops in the states.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
