History lesson

The Rathaus tour does not cover a lot of rooms inside the old town hall. You do get a good sense of Bremen's history. And the rooms you do visit are very beautiful.

Lovely to see old buildings like this in Germany. Beautiful town hall and city. Not sure if it is possible to go inside.

An imposing presence in Bremen market place, it is little wonder UNESCO awarded Bremen town hall (together with the neighbouring Roland statue) World Heritage status. It's truly beautiful ; an architectural melting pot of gothic, renaissance and new renaissance design. A one-hour tour for two people costs a very reasonable €10 with tickets available for purchase from the nearby tourist... More

You will find the city hall prominently in the old Market Square. The facade is built two centuries later than the building itself and it is elaborate and beautiful - likely so to be able to represent the proud city of Bremen. Next to the St Peter's Cathedral it is probably the second most photographed building of old Bremen.

While we had friends and family visit us, we decided to show them a wonderful and very important part of Bremen: the town hall. This magical, almost out of a fairy tale building was built in the beginning of the 15th century, and has lived through both the world wars mostly due to the love and pride of the citizens... More

Do a tour if you can (I think you need to pre-book). Lots of history there. Lovely to view from the outside too, and the Ratskeller is worth a visit too.

The Rathaus is an amazing piece of architecture with an inspiring outer appearance. It's really beaultiful! The platz, the people, the builds... nice architeture, and have too much history in each detail.

The town hall of Bremen is often regarded as Germany's finest municipal building. Its facade- a Gothic brick Rathaus is completed in 1410 and fronted with a splendid Renaissance style in 1612. A tour of the interior includes various splendid historic rooms.

My wife and I visited Bremen whilst on a mini-cruise. Although our time was limited we did see some of the buildings in the city. To me, the most beautiful was the town hall. It is difficult to describe but I thought that it had a magical quality about it that you do not often see in town halls in... More
