Lovely classicist square and the heart of the old city. It needed almost complete rebuilding after the bombings of the Allies in the Second World war.

A square that is surrounded by pretty local attractions that are interesting to visit if you have free time separate from visiting other more popular tourist places of the city. In the middle of it there is an usual pretty obelisk... No more no less.

We took the train from Alexanderplatz to Potsdam about 40 mins and used our Berlin Card about five minutes walk from the station to the square. We visited the Tourist Information just at the entrance to the Square and got helpful maps. It was dull day but this didn't prevent us seeing the glory of the renovations which will be stunning on a nice sunny day. Well worth the trip and the lovely city center close by is a must visit if you have time to pop out from central Berlin you will not be disappointed by the number of lovely streets, shops and cafes with many small independent traders. There are also the various gardens and Palaces at Sanssouci which well do on our next trip as not enough time to see it all

You need to read the story about this place, true almost all is rebuild after the war, But they rebuild it with such quality that almost you can't tell the difference.
Again visit this area in the later afternoon when all lights will illuminate this place at it's best.
Plenty of people strolling around, enjoying summer!

Huge widen open square with iconic landmark buildings including the famous church right in the heart of the city and excellent to get your bearings from.

There are some beautiful landmark buildings on this square which makes it a great spot for photos. Worth visiting.

As part of the self-guided visit of the old city, this square is one of the places you will pass through. layed in from of the St. Nikolai church, its huge expanse is impressive. So is the cleanliness and sober presentability of the buildings surrounding it.

With decent buildings all around it, being returned to its former glory. Pedistrianised so no jumping out of the way of cars and vans.

The Old Square harshly suffered of the british bombing and the communist governement destroyed it.The new old square is a creation that makes reborn the historical heart of the city.
