This is a fantastic museum and provided us a very welcome and thorough introduction to Hamburg not long off the plane.
I love museums that have life-size set ups of old pubs, shops, and other rooms to immerse you in the experience and this museum has so many. Well worth the entry fee and you could spend a good few hours here.

The building and park where the museum is located are stunning. But that’s it. There is a total lack of storytelling in the museum, which makes it confusing. There are thousands of things to see, but there is no narrative nor links between the rooms and exhibition. The city has such an interesting history, which the museum fails to tell.

Lovely museum! The exhibition takes you around the different historical and cultural changes that the city of Hamburgh went through. Detailed explanations in both English and German made it easy to follow through the timeline.

Took us around 3 hours to finish the museum.

Would definetely recommend it!

Went there on Thursday afternoon just to take a brief look before I buy a regulat ticket (entry is free on Thursdays after 5 pm). To be honest, I'm glad I didn't have to buy it, for it wouldn't be worth spending the money.

It covers the whole history of the city but the collection is rather poor - not so many real historic items; they rather present printed copies of documents and photos etc. Section on WW II and the bombing of Hamburg is interesting but indeed very small in scope. Same for the local Jewish community. Most things relate to the modern post-war history of Hamburg but this is quite weirdly presented and not that interesting in my opinion, either.

For 9 Euro per adult you certainly get value for money here as you can easily spend a whole morning or afternoon looking at the many exhibits. Everything is very well presented and on three floors. The large model railway on the top floor was an un-expected delight! There is a café/bar here also.

It is a nice historical building with a glass covered central courtyard.
Has good architecture. Like many Hamburg buildings, it is from red brick.

It is very well laid out museum and gives the history in a chronology.
Some important historical events etc have been recreated with miniature models etc. which helps to understand and visualize those times.

It is also on the walking distance to many other historical and architectural buildings in Hamburg.
This photo attached here is from my 1st visit.

The Museum is more extensive than it looks from the outside. You can spend several hours touring the exhibits. We thought that it could have devoted more space to late 19th to early-mid 20th century Hamburg history. For a good museum devoted to Hamburg during the Second World War, visit the museum in the crypt of the St. Nikolai memorial church.

This Museum shows the history of Hamburg through the years. However if you do not know German it's difficult to follow. The exhibitions are all in German with only a few of them translated in English. Four stories of very interesting things which sadly are addressed to specific audience. In addition really bad that the woman in the front desk did not even understand the most basic English. We just asked for two tickets and she was like eeh no English.

Went to this museum for a few with my buddy to kill time. We ended up only being able to do the first and second floor because we got so tired walking around it. The models are very impressive and the themed rooms are very cool.
Would recommend to anyone

Although I initially planned to visit the art gallery that it was partially closed for renovation I then decided to visit the Museum of Hamburg History and at the end of my visit I was really happy and enthusiastic about it. It is a very thorough and extensive museum and it covers the history as well as some interiors of a few ancient and not so old houses. There was a section that covered the clothing over the various historic periods as well as a contemporary exhibition that changes from time to time. The restaurant/cafe' there was also quite interesting as it was not what I had expected to find in a museum. I would definitely recommend the visit to this museum.
