A surprisingly enjoyable couple of hours. The docks and the industrial areas were quite interesting, and the container port's scale has to be seen close up to be believed. Commentary was only in German, and informative (if you speak German), but somewhat irritating after the first half hour (irregardless of your linguistic athleticism). Not cheap, but has a bar and... We turned up at the Landungsbrücken, where all the harbour boat trips go from, at about 11 o'clock on a weekday in December, and didn't expect there to be much in the way of choice of trip. This soon proved to be wrong as there are still many tours operating. Some of the operators are very loud and pushy, so... More

With only 24 hours in Hamburg, we were delighted that we had chosen to take a harbor cruise. We opted for the smaller boat cruise (from Pier 1) even though it was in German. The English-narrated cruise offered close to the time we got there was on a larger boat that didn't cover the Speicherstadt, an area we really wanted... More

I went on the 12 pm trip on Concordia. This trip provides a commentary in English. Hamburg Harbour is fascinating. The tour guide provides very good explanations and interpretation of the various parts of the harbour, and of the huge ships in port. I sat on the top of the boat. You can buy drinks from the waiter. Not sure... More

We decided to take the 12 o'clock cruise in English. The lady at the ticket counter at pier 1 told the cruise leaves from pier 10. It was far away to walk with a bad knee in pouring rain. Finally made it to pier 10 just to find out the cruise leaves from pier 4. So walk all the way... More

We took this boat spontaneously as we were walking past it. They charged only for 6 adults and 4 kids joined for free. It was quite enjoyable. They didn't serve any food or drinks although they had a fully equipped bar and kitchen. It took one hour and it's a must try as it takes around the whole Hafen plus... More

We delayed leaving Hamberg long enough to take the only harbor cruise in which English was spoken. We bought tickets immediately before the cruise was to leave. We were told that our boat was the Iris. The Iris left for a harbor cruise but the English speaking cruise never did. A ton of people milled around and waited in line... More

It was the first sunny day and we sat outside at the back, where, incidentally, you cannot hear the commentary but since we have been on a harbour trip several times, we were fine with that. I should also point out that the commentary was in German (the tour started at 1 p.m.). This time we were taken through a... More

I paid 20 Euros for what I thought would be a 1 hour cruise on the harbour with English commentary. I was told there were English tours at 12:00 and 14:00. The man at the ticket office took my money for the 14:00 tour, gave me a yellow ticket written in German and sent me to dock 1. I couldn't... More

We lined up early on the wharf with a bunch of other tourists who were waiting for the 12 noon English language tour as advertised on the Rainer Abicht brochure. Representatives of the company told us we would be travelling on the paddlesteamer and that we would ba allowed to board about 11:30. At about 11:50 the boat came alongside... More
