I had briefly seen the Old Jewish cemetery on a Frankfurt city tour & felt I'd like to take a closer look. This is the oldest Jewish cemetery in Frankfurt & was actively used from 1270 to 1828. It is now enclosed by the Jewish Holocaust Memorial wall which bears the names of hundreds of Frankfurt Jews killed in concentration camps during WWII, including Annelies Frank (Ann Frank 12.6.1929-Maerz 1945) who was born in Frankfurt but who died in Berger-Belsen. Within the memorial wall only a small proportion of the graves remain after widespread destruction at the hands of the National Socialists. It is now a peaceful place & I found it to be a very moving experience to begin to see the scale of the persecution of the Jewish people during this dark period in history.

The cemetery is located next to the Jewish museum. You can get the keys from the Jewish museum reception. The walls of the cemetery are covered from outside with 11,000 names of Frankfurt Jews that were murdered during the Nazi regime. Where there is no name it indicates the person name was taken off since she/he succeeded to escape. In the cemetery are headstones of an older graveyard that was completely destroyed by the Nazis. Among those graves is also Moshe Rothschild, the head of the Rothschild family. 2/3 of the place was destroyed and the remaining graves are covered with moss. Need quick cleaning so that will be readable again. Avoid visiting on Saturday as it is closed

This is one of the most moving memorials I have visited. There is a very large wall listing the names of those Jews from Frankfurt killed in the Holocaust.

It is in a discrete spot in Frankfurt, not far from the center. Worth to see, by it’s meaningful honor

Very well preserved. The memorial is along the walls of the cemetery. Spent about an hour here. It makes you feel the difficulties they must have felt, the number of names along the walls..

Seeing the old stones, many of which have been broken or moved, poignantly illustrates the plight of the Jews in Germany. Recommended.

Heartbreaking. I found my great grandparents on a small plaque here at the cemetery. And absolute must to commemorate the past.

This very old cemetery is an important piece of the Jewish history in Frankfurt, located in the Judengasse area, the old Jewish ghetto of the city. Keys are available at the Judengasse Museum reception next to it.

We walked around the walls surrounding the Jewish cemetery. It is very moving with all the names listed and even the blocks on the wall which are blank as they are still determining. The history of the cemetery is also moving

The cemetery is located next to the Jewish museum. The walls of the cemetery are covered from outside with more than 10,000 names of Jews lived in Frankfurt and who were murdered during the Nazi regime. The place makes you feel bad as such a huge amount of people was murdered just because they were Jews.
