This is the main building of the Rostock University. The university is older than we had though, it was actually from around 1420, and today several other buildings are placed around the city. The structure itself is beautiful with a lot of nice details.

This university has existed for nearly 600 years. The numerous displays of art, taxidermy, and documents from the past, make for a very interesting tour.

Great taxidermy collection

I didn't expect to see such a good taxidermy collection there. Although the space is small, but there are also young and passionate university students who like to talk to you.

Grand Structure

The University was established in 1419. The central building is in Universitatsplatz and depicts the cost of arms of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The dates on show are 1419 foundation and 1867 when this building was built. A very grand structure.

Stunning building!

Whilst our cruise ship was berthed in the port of Rostock for the day, we spent a pleasant Saturday afternoon exploring Rostock’s downtown area.
We had been shopping in Kropeliner Strasse which is the main retail precinct in Rostock and then we headed just around the corner to take a look at the Rostock University.
We were blown away by the stunning architecture of the main university building. It is a multi-storied large old building which dates back to the 19th century. Its impressive and imposing façade dominates the large public square in which it is situated.
We spent some time admiring and photographing this stunning building before moving on to visit other attractions around the town.
Certainly a “must see” building for any tourist spending time in Rostock!

Historic university

This is the oldest university in Northern Europe. The main building has a lovely façade and faces a big grassy park with a large, attractive fountain. On the day we were there, there was a local festival in the park and it had a very nice atmosphere.

Beautiful Day

We had a great time in Rostock having got the train to the town from the cruise port.
Rostock is a very picturesque place.
We had a walk around and found a lovely restaurant. We had hotdogs from a street seller which were delicious.

Fantastic Architecture

This building was one of many making up the University buildings in the square at Rostock.
Red bricks seem to be a favourite in this part of the world.

One of the oldest universities in the world

The University of Rostock was founded in 1419 making it one of the oldest universities in the world. The facade on the main building is intricate and relays messages to those looking at it. There are also statues on the facade. A small shady park is across the street.
