Very clean and somewhat modern looking, on the big market square in the center of town. This is City Hall, a place of official business. The square is immense and on a sunny day, very hot. The Rathaus is not the most attractive building on the market square.

While our cruise ship was docked in the port of Rostock, we participated in a guided tour to the UNESCO listed town of Wismar.
The first stop on our guided tour was in the Old Town market square. Here, our tour guide pointed out a number of structures of historical interest located around the market square. While there, the tour guide also gave the tour group a little bit of free time to stroll around the square.
During this time we were able to take a close-up view of the Wismar Town Hall which by its large size dominates one end of the market square. The town hall’s façade has a vivid white colour scheme which contrasts nicely with its red tiled roof. The entrance portico supported by four rounded columns is a stylish feature of the symmetrically styled architecture of this impressive public building.
Another “must-see” building for any tourist visiting Wismar!

When visiting from our cruise ship, we could not fail to to be impressed by this large building overlooking the equally impressive market/town square of the city. This appears to be the main focal point of the centre and is surrounded by shops, restaurants, business and residential premises in surrounding streets. It is worth visiting the area to see the Rathaus, which provides a major presence along one side of the large vibrant central area.

A beautiful town square with the Rathous standing grandly at one end. A wedding party was outside which made for some lovely photographs of the building. The other buildings around the square are also very pretty ad worth seeing. Do make sure that if you travel by car or motorbike that you buy a parking ticket as wardens were patrolling and fining motorists that had not bought a ticket. It was only 50 cents for 20 minutes so time enough for a coffee and taking plenty of photographs!
