Incredible. It's almost Islamic in the intricacy of its wall patterns. The scale of the building is breathtaking. We wondered all around it, sat down to take it all in, lit some candles and generally marvelled at pretty much everything we saw. It's a shame the Charlemagne Centre was closed as we would have loved to have found out more... More

Having visited many churches and cathedrals all over Europe, the Aachener Dom stands out for it's architecture and astonishing interior decoration. Even though in all churches you would remain silent out of respect, in the Dome you are silenced by it's sheer beauty. When in Aachen a must see!

Very impressive and a must to see! Recommended that you read up on the history of the cathedral before visiting. According to Wikipedia, "it is the oldest cathedral in northern Europe and was constructed by order of emperor Charlemagne, who was buried there after his death in 814. For 595 years, from 936 to 1531, the Aachen chapel was the... More

Beautiful roundish architecture. Extensive fine mosaic work with gold in all ceilings. You pay 1 EU to take photographs, well worth it! It's a pity to run into beggars in the surroundings

We went to Aachen on a day trip, and being the Christmas street fair season the city was packed by visitors wanting a bit of german tradition - but we were amazed by discovering that Aachen has the oldest Cathedral (The DOM) of northern europe - and it is just stunning! It is very, very different than any other cathedral... More

Famous and historically one of most significant cathedrals in Europe is may be not that impressive from outside if you compare her with other cathedrals like in Reims, but for sure special surprise when you enter. Interior is one of most special among religious architecture in Germany. So for sure worth visiting.

I presume anyone travelling to Aachen intends to visit the Cathedral (Dom) and I likewise presume they will read up on it or do some research before they leave home. So, in other words, I don't it's my place to talk about when it was built, what architectural style was used, etc. All that info can be found online. I... More

A definitive MUST-SEE in western europe. Special place to have a look over history. I won´t tell more as it´s way better to see it by yourself.
