This bridge over the Rhine River can be crossed by foot or by train. Since 2008 padlocks have adorned a fence on the bridge, affixed by couples as a sign of love and commitment.

The river is no longer troubled, but the briudge and its many usage are a testament to Germanic engineering. Not to mention the ritualitisc love locks that are sealed and the keys thrown in the river. Frightening to imagine the pollution in the water form...More

Interesting bridge easily crossed on foot - fascinating amount of padlocks and an amazing view of the city and of course cathedral. Good to cross the Rhine and walk on the other side of the city for a different viewpoint.

Fun trek across the Rhine on a bridge built by Kaiser Wilhelm II. Lovers have put pad locks on the railing and thrown the keys into the river as a testament to their eternal love for each other. If the weather's nice, expect lots of...More

This bridge reminds me of the famous ‘Howrah Bridge’ in Kolkatta India. It’s a sight to see from below with trains traveling through... on the bridge, with boats sailing underneath... This is very close to Cologne central station... one can just walk up this riverfront...More

A nice walk across the river, both day and nighttime. Good views back at Cologne and the Cathedral from the other side.

Beautiful experience. We also put our family love Lock on the bridge. We noted that one side has fewer locks but we were not sure how to get there, I think it's from the station side

Yes it is a architecturally significant bridge, it also carries the trains from the main Cologne train station over the Rhine River and has pedestrian a walkway on the side. We likely would not have taken the time to walk on the bridge had it...More

It's amazing how something that is basically a very ordinary rail and pedestrian bridge can turn into a major attraction. It is said that more than 1.200 trains pass over the bridge on weekdays and it is not unusual to see 3 trains on the...More

We went to a little shop down a side street as you go down to the river walk off one of the squares. The padlock and engraving was 9 euros!! Dont go to the shops right near the cathedral they are very expensive look around!

Hello Holly, I would also recommend bringing your own. Just make sure that it is fairly sturdy. There are so many locks already attached, that flimsy ones are apt to be smashed and lost. People are now resorting to... More
