Kranhauser are emblematic for the Cologne skyline. An interesting place for lovers of modern architecture. One of the finest views of the buildings is from the river, during a boat trip. Around the buildings there are pleasant places for coffee breaks, and the place itself...More

There are 3 in total in Cologne's Rheinauhafen, each of the 3 buildings has 17 storeys. It is a landmark on River Rhine in Cologne and houses office space and luxury apartments.

These three buildings (2 office, 1 housing) are built like the old wharf cranes with only one supporting leg (like bird cranes as well, I suppose). Not much to see really, although the redeveloped harbour area through which you'll walk is fascinating - they still...More

Their unusual inverted L-shape is said to be inspired by the dockside cranes that used to be...More

This place is not just a symbol of Cologne, there are also a number of outdoor cafés and even a fake beach (in summer) around the Kranhäuser. There is also a skate park nearby and the area is popular with cyclists, walkers, runners and foodies...More

Unfortunately these buildings are ugly and a sight for sore eyes. They maybe 'modern' but they are not nice at all. Very boring to look at. Much prefer the old town of Cologne to this.
