I live in Essen and I though why not visit sights nearby. You pay a small fee of 5€ and you get to see the main house, the guest house and you can have a long stroll on the grounds. Villa Huegel is a big...More

The main house is beautiful from the outside and when you go inside the rooms are impressive in size and magnificent, the wooden floors are a work of art. But........... There is absolutely no explanation about any of the rooms on show, nobody to ask...More

An interesting house relating to all things relevant to the Krupp family. The rooms were quite austere with very little furniture, mainly pictures and written information. However, it was worth the visit. We didn't have time to walk around the grounds extensively, so we can't...More

This is a vast house and of some architectural interest but I the sparsely furnished rooms were rather austere and somehow didn't tell much of story. There was an art exhibition on the top floor which just wasn't that accessible. Impressive? yes, but did I...More

Go to house with beautiful wood work. No furniture just empty rooms. Lots of info about the crops family but it was all in German. There was a Josef Albers art show which was interesting. It had ample English translations so it was much more...More

The Villa is a lovely country house or what we would call a mansion in England. The house belonged to the Krupp family, famous for iron and steel production amongst other things. The Villa is set in very impressive grounds and sits above a lake,...More

After reading the history of Afried Krupp and Villa Hügel, wanted to see and experience it my self. When you walk to it, really impressive building with a huge green area. But sadly most of the castle is off-limits for public, would have liked to...More

Villa Hügel is certainly nicer and more impressive than a number of palaces, including monumental ones, such as the Residenz in Munich, seen as a matter of taste in decoration. Impressive scenery, excellent taste, innovative technology, explain the breathtaking success of the Krupp family.

Villa Hugel tells the story of the Krupp family which is quite interesting. Unfortunately, the museum lacks documentation in English and many details get lost for the non-German speaking visitors. This is a pity, as there is an interesting story that is being told here.
