About
A "workshop for the world" - that was the city of Solingen with its cutlery production at the end of the 19th century. Even today, in the Hendrichs drop forge of the LVR Industrial Museum in Solingen, you can experience how the red-hot slit pieces are forged into scissor blanks under a loud roar, how it bangs and hisses. You will learn exciting facts about the history of the famous Solingen cutlery industry.

Wonderful working museum telling the story of making an everyday item such as scissors and of the people who worked there. Who knew it could be so complicated and require so much skill? Volunteers demonstrate the various processes - even allowing visitors to try their hands. Much of the factory is just as it was when it closed, giving a real sense of atmosphere complete with the heat and noise. The audio guide in English explains everything without being too technical.

There are also static displays about Solingen's famous history of high quality cutlery and knife making, with examples of current craftsmanship.

This wonderful industrial museum is very interesting and gives a good insight into the manufacturing process of scissors. Very good is that all the machines are still working, so that many demonstrations are possible. The factory building is a paradise for photo enthusiasts who want to capture the past.

The factory owner's house on the premises is also worth seeing.

The museum is easily accessible and offers many free parking spaces.

If you are interested in Solingen's history and typical products, the museum is definitely worth a visit. In an old factory, the artifacts that you see were actually used. And we were lucky enough to visit on the weekend, when some of the retired workers were showing their trade and firing up the old machines. There was a group of kids there on a "tour" and they were loving it. We had the added bonus of it showcasing part of our family history for overseas guests.

Great destination for families. Small but nice museum with very dedicated staff. The trip was informative and fun. There was a lot to discover and the children could make something in the hands-on workshop.
Parking is available.

Very interesting museum, rarely seen or experienced such committed employees 👍, it was fun, you can even lend a hand yourself and the children can make themselves a souvenir for a small donation. Will happily recommend. 👍👍👍
