It was interesting to visit the museum to see the printing press and how it revolutionized the world. Seeing the Gutenberg Bible was the highlight of the tour. Taking photos is not allowed inside.

My visit to the Gutenberg Museum followed a look through the Museum of Ancient Shipbuilding about 1km away. They are very different experiences. Where the latter is a large brightly lit space, the Gutenberg Museum lighting is extremely dim in order to prolong the life...More

We arrived in Mainz by ship and were provided with a tour of the city that included the Gutenberg Museum. Our guide was interesting, but very slow and I felt that we were being rushed in the museum. We did see a demo of the...More

It is a special museum with a lot of interesting information. The entrance fee is low, we paid 20€ for 2 families with 2 kids each. The only "bad" thing is that they don't allow fotos. You need 1-2 hours depending how thorough you are.

Full disclosure, I have a Journalism degree so am totally interested in the Gutenberg Museum. But even a simple curiosity about newspapers or the Bible printing processes should keep you fascinated here. Mainz is the home of Johannes Gutenberg, the man who brought the printing...More

Wasn’t really impressed by the museum. Lighting is terrible (assuming to preserve the documents). Not very visitor friendly. Didn’t know where to begin, other than up the stairs. Workers seemed disengaged, one on cell phone. Most displays do have English translations. No pictures allowed in...More

This museum is fascinating, covering so much of history that I'd never heard about. I take visitors here all the time and each time I still learn something new. The audio tours are excellent (English, German and other languages as well- though I can only...More

Fun for the kids. They get to see a printing press in action on the tour. We also saw the Gutenberg bible.

They expanded this museum since I visited a few years ago. Very interesting. Wife and I enjoyed it. No charge. The museum is closed on Monday.
