Set on the perimeter of the Theaterplatz, the Hofkirche is another example of the stunning beauty of Dresden's architectural contribution to the world. The Hofkirche is the Catholic Cathedral of Dresden. Along with most of Dresden, it was badly damaged in February 1945. The East German government first restored it in the 1980s. This church became a cathedral in 1980, when it became a bishop's seat.

Some fabulous architecture on the exterior of this glorious cathedral situated opposite the opera house. The elevated statues surrounding most of the facade are excellent.

An active Catholic Church that has been restored. Not as opulent as some of the protestant churches, it is still worth a trip to compare the styles. As an active church be mindful of services and those coming to worship.

No, one does not usually pay to visit an open church. Perhaps if it is being uded as a venue for an advertidrd concert. In that case you will surely find notices.
