If you visit Leipzig, you also have to visit the Bach Museum. It’s that simple.
You can’t visit Leipzigs’ Bach without visiting his Museum. You will find relics, original music paper, Bach ‘piano’ and cello but you will also be able to sit, relax and enjoy his wonderful music. Fantastic museum.

    A must visit museum!
A superb museum particularly for lovers of Bach music and the history of baroque music. There is plenty of interesting displays to read and watch and a copious supply of recordings of Bach music to listen to. Over the road is the Thomas Kirche where one can see original instruments of the baroque period and hear live performances of Cantatas and the Passions.

    Really nice museum
Very nice museum. Beautifully curated and interactive. Highly recommend the audio tour, perfect for solo or small groups. Perfect to visit St Thomas and St Nickolas after or before the museum.

A must see to the Bach enthusiast
Located in the former Bose family home across St. Thomas church where Bach spent most of his career as a musician. It has interactive displays along with manuscripts and some of the instruments that belonged to the composer. Definitely worth a visit.

So much music and such fun displays. You don’t need to know anything about Bach or music to enjoy this. Original manuscripts and old instruments were amazing. I loved the display where they played each instrument within the orchestra !! Wow. Spend at least 2 hours.

This museum has it all! The inter-active exhibits, musical instruments, family history, & Bach’s connections to Leipzig were outstanding. We especially enjoyed the audio guide and additional audio selections of Bach’s compositions. It was informative and fun! Well done!!

I worship music by Johann Sebastian Bach.

So, I went to this museum. First, they took my money, and sent me to another building. There, they asked, if I speak German. After verifying that I did not, they informed me that they will NOT let me in, unless I surrender my tiny waist bag to them 'for storage'. I explained (and have shown) that I only have my cash, credit cards, and my passport in my waist bag, and would be happier to keep these items on my body, and not in their 'storage'. They still forced me to leave my valuables with them.

I was astonished to see inside the museum, that everyone else was permitted there with large bags and rucksacks. Why? May be, because they spoke German? That was pure racist discrimination (and I am an old white woman, not ISIS).

I have to admit, that it was difficult to focus on the content of exhibition after such treatment by the staff.

I still worship music by Johann Sebastian Bach - DESPITE activity of Bach museum in Leipzig.

Although I don't regret that our family visited the Bach Museum, Leipzig, I have to say I expected more. After having taken in all it had to offer, our joint thought was, "That's it?" J. S. Bach was in Leipzig serving at the adjacent Thomas Church for the last 27 years of his life and is even buried there. Considering those facts I expected a much more robust celebration of his life and career, than this modest facility offers.

On the plus side, it was quite amazing to see manuscripts and musical compositions in Bach's own handwriting in the Treasure Room, along with portraits of him. I found the Bach family tree exhibit interesting as well. Admission is more than reasonable--young people under 16 years of age are free, and adults are 8 euros each.

In the upper level of the museum you can put on headphones and hear any of Bach's compositions. This interactive area was enjoyed by my family members. On the same level there is an exhibit about various musical instruments used in orchestras during the Baroque period, which I found static and underwhelming.

Looking over some of the other reviews, I see one person suggest that Bach's music should be playing throughout the museum. Great suggestion! (And kind of inexplicable that it's not.) Another wrote that the musuem lacked a "wow factor." That hits the nail on the head---our family doesn't regret going, and will remember, in particular, seeing the amazing items in the Treasure Room area--but nothing about the experience "wowed" us. I wouldn't necessarily dissuade people from visiting this museum, especially music lovers/students; But if you are pressed for time, choose simply to go into the Thomaskirche, the seat of Bach's Leipzig career and his final resting place, right across the street.

I was very excited to see this museum as my partner and myself are huge fans of Bach. Incredibly it is not open on Mondays. After walking in drenching rain we were told by a very rude woman that it is not open in a very loud rude voice.
Unfortunately I did not have time to see it the next day as we were leaving Leipzig.

A very interesting museum. It was fantastic to see the original music sheets and to listen to Bach’s pieces played on the old instruments. A must see :)

Lovely museum just the right size for 1 to 1.5 hours. A must for Bach fans and music fans. Lovely manuscripts to look at, and instruments, etc. with lots of information in English and German on Bach's music and life and the background in which he worked.
Not as shiny as the Mendelssohn Haus and way better than the Schumann Haus (see my reviews there!)
Very nice staff, free English audio guide and lockers.
