This is a solemn, tasteful, and informative memorial. It was obviously intended as a fitting tribute to those who gave their lives at sea, not as a tourist draw nor to provide "entertainment". So if you're looking for "selfies", computer games or animation go to Disney. If you are a history buff, Naval historian, or simply want to pay respects... More

I happened upon this Memorial in 1990 while driving around in northern FRG. I still have a lot of stark and moving memories of walking the grounds. The story that I usually tell is about all the Ships' Horns and Whistles I heard while viewing all the outside exhibits. I asked the person in the gift shop why that was.... More

First - please note that this place is a place of remembering the fallen. So please behave respectful and do not disturb other visitors (esp. ceremonies). The memorial site offers a very informative exhibition about German naval forces since the last German emperor up to present day. From the tower top you get a great view on Kiel and surroundings... I had the opportunity to bear and lay the wreath in this ceremony (though I am not in the picture) with another friend of mine and it was truly an event that is centered on remembering the past and moving toward a better future. There is a lot of old naval history in the memorial and the view from the... More

The memorial is well worth a visit. There is a lift to the first platform (57 meters high) and the views over the Baltic Sea and Laboe are amazing. There is also a second platform which can only be reached by stairs from the first platform, but unfortunately it was closed due to renovations. The memorial is very informative and... More

Just one way in and one way out and noch exclusive Informations. No Tour Guide! I think its too expensive and boring. The submarine in the Bavaria Movie Studios in Munich visited years ago was more interesting and you got more Information.

If you are interested in naval history, the Laboe Monument gets five stars; if you aren't, it gets less. The complex consists of four parts. A museum which is primarily builders' scale models of German warships, interesting to examine. They are difficult to photograph since they are behind glass. The monument itself, which is subterranean. I first visited it in... More

From Kiel you need to take a tour to the other side of the canal to see this memorial, the museum and the u995 world war 2 submarine. This memorial seems very sad and solemn. The wall of lost ships for each war really brings home the losses Germany suffered. It seemed tragic to think of all the young men lost.... More

As others already wrote, it is nothing special and honestly not worthy to spend your time there. The view from the top is quite nice, but the rest is ordinary stuff. Sorry to say that, but have seen more interesting places.
