Since we live in Almunecar, Spain for several months each year, we often drive up into the Alpujarras villages which are scattered through mountain range which lie between the Mediterranean Sea and Granada. It is the second highest mountain range in Europe and from the village Trevelez hikers can cross the highest pass in Europe (during good weather in the... More

Beautiful place with beautiful people. Even with language barrier was welcomed everywhere. There are several small towns on the mountains. We took a bus from Granada and was back in the evening. Would recommend to spend a night. Some super views of the Sierra Nevada ranges and multiple trails that you can do.

Our first visit to the mountains and we have not been disappointed. We have been staying in the small village of Bubion and if you like walking you will not be disappointed, the whole area is fabulous.

On this trip I would suggest that you start the journey with a tank full of petrol and a camera with a spare battery. It can be done in a day, but if time permits, an overnight stop at say Pampaneira, allows more time to explore this beautiful area. We were staying in Guadix and had decided to drive out,... More

We just returned from a wonderful horseback riding vacation, which we booked through Equitours. The riding facility is owned by Dallas Love, who is an expert rider and very gracious host and guide. It is a strenuous trip, as advertised, but well worth it for experienced riders. The weather in the mountains is unpredictable, so it is necessary to come... More

This wonderful location is a mountain range in Southern Spain. Situated overlooking the Mediterranean Sea it is the second highest mountain range in Europe. Most of it is now protected and is a National Park. The backdrop to La Alpujarra is the magnificent Sierra Nevada with its snow capped peaks. Well, from late October through to June anyway. You can... More
