This small church is located in the area of Carrera del Darro and Plaza Nueva. It was designed by Diego de Siloé and in its construction you can see a harmonious collaboration of Mudejar resources with the Renaissance art prevailing in the city in the 16th century.
The interior, difficult to visit, houses some works of art of great value.

This church is the beginning of the Carrera del Darro and draws your attention to its exterior. I have been left wanting to see the interior of the temple because I did not agree to visit it as it was about to close. You will surely see it because it is located in a very touristy place.

The Iglesia de San Gil y Santa Ana is located near the city-side of the Carrera del Darro. The church's simple exterior belies the surprising beauty of the interior. Take a few minutes to visit and appreciate!

The Church of San Gil and Santa Ana is located is a Mudejar style church that was started in 1537 under the direction of the architect Diego de Siloe, one of the best Andalusian architects of that time. There used to be a mezquita here but the only thing conserved is its tower made of brick and decorated with tile. The tower has four windows in its façade.
There is one main nave and there are five chapels on each side of the nave. The ceiling is Mudejar and is elaborately decorated in wood. There are wonderful sculptures such as the Dolorosa created by Jose de Mora in 1671 and the Calvary by Diego de Aranda. There are paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries. The Sacristy has a goblet created by Francisco Tellez in 1568 and a Crucifix by Juan de Mena.
The façade was created by Sebastian de Alcantara in 1542 and finished in 1547 by his son Juan de Alcantara. The sculptures on the façade were the work of Diego de Aranda. The style of the façade is Renaissance and it has an arch that is flanked by Corinthian columns. Above this are three niches with sculptures and over this is a medallion of the Virgin and Child. And above this is the coat of arms of Archbishop Niño de Guevara.

Pretty church with interesting wooden ceiling which you will pass if you walk up from the centre to Sacromonte or the Albayzín.

Travelling on the green Granada city tour bus, I always adored this little church in front of the Royal Chancery of Granada.Once, when we walked down from Alhambra, we had the chance to have a closer look. This nearly 500 years old catholic church was built to replace the mosque of the Almanzora self-governing community of Moors. There was a bridge over the Darro river for the Muslims, but when the Santa Ana was built, the stone bridge was renamed Santa Ana as well.
The church built in Mudejar style has a single nave, and the interior is richly gilded and decorated. The curiously the main altar is the less ornamented. On the right side, there is a very sorrow face lady in a beautifully embroidered green gown. I guess that she is Santa Ana. On the other hand is a youngish man, dressed only in a perianth around his waist. I wondered if he was just feeling hot, or intended to step into some water to have a bath? Maybe he is Saint Giles? Or someone else? Probably I never will learn. Finally, I was happy for a while when I noticed a sculpture carrying a cross since I sought it is easy to identify him. After I had another look and I could see that he is dressed in a frock. Now I’m in confusion again. Is this Christ in incognito, or someone else? There is another unknown unfortunate lady, kneeling and covered with some nuns clothe. The church really should have to think about people like me, who are uneducated in religious history and put a nametag underneath the sculptures.
I front of the church is a fountain with a bull-head in the middle and two young man pouring water from a jar on the two sides. A bench is standing front of it. The complete set up is very appealing and peaceful. Worth for a visit.

When we visited this beautiful church we walked in on a wedding ceremony and stayed for the applause. This time of year the church hosts back to back to back weddings and is worth a visit.

Our apartment balcony faced this small but charming 16th century church at Plaza Santa Ana (just past Plaza Nueva on the way to the Alhambra.) When we saw a man at a table, selling tickets for 1.50 euros each (for conservation costs), we hurried over. So glad we did as its charming with a Mudejar-Renaissance design, paintings, and several interesting polychrome figures.

We were lucky as we saw a very smart Wedding being held here. So the next day we went in (for one euro each) and saw the most beautiful display of flowers decorating the quite beautiful Altar. Even without the Wedding flowers this is a delightful Church to visit.

We have been to this small church many times and we always enjoy seeing it. Its location by the Plaza Nueva is very good and it is easy to get to.
