From kansas City, USA.Just returned from Spain. Walked the way of St James 151 km from O' Cebreiro to Santiago de Compostela . Used Marly Camino out of Madrid. Took the train from Madrid to Leon. We met with them in Leon. Marly Camino is a first class tour co. Would highly recommend. The camino is just everything you read about. But to experience it, is just another part of your journey in life. I quit counting how many people i met from around the world at 25. The trails are just amazing. Everything from a dirt path, rocky, asphalt to cobblestone. 99% is my estimate are marked well. Just need to take your time , look for the yellow arrow, always remember the last way marker you passed just in case you do get off track! Always remember a a "Y" in the path Stop & pay attention look for that arrow, can be tricky at times. Also some alburqes use a yellow arrow pointing to their alburqe. Can't tell you how many times had to help people because they would follow that arrow & not the correct one for the trail. Also pay attention if your just talking or in deep conversation it's easy to miss an arrow ! All people along the away are just so helpful. I don't know much Spanish but was always able to figure things out. That was my biggest concern. Was no problem at all. Take your time & enjoy all the scenery in each area you are in. It's all so different and beautiful. Lived every part of it. Did come across many herds of sheep & cows especially around 4:00 in the afternoon. Farmers moving the herds from the pastures to the barns. It was a fantastic experience. You will come across bicycles most are very polite. Use a little bell to let you know they are behind you and about to pass you. Only had a few that didn't . Had one close call with one of those. Was in a really rocky area and stepped to my left and that bike was right on me. Never heard him coming, no bell. Didn't hit me but just inches away. Just saw 1 man on horseback. The one thing I will say is train for a lot of hills more! I trained for 6-9 months. I did do hills on the week ends. But should have done them every day. I think it would have been helpful. I was concerned more about the distances each day ,that was no problem. But some of those hills are killers. Just a heads up. I am 58 and in good shape. So just walk and do hills. Getting into Santiago is just amazing. The cathedral is just breath taking. More beautiful than any picture. I was there for the Friday pilgrim mass with the botifurmerio . It truly is undescribable ! Was also there for penecost Sunday. Was just amazing. This is a must see and experience. Enjoy the city of Santiago alot to see. Was in Spain from 5-28-6-10-14. the weather was great. Only had 21/2 days of rain off & on. Not bad, expected. 70 degrees other day. Just perfect! Went on to Finestere "end of the world" the next day. Final distention ! Was an experience of a life time! It will change you for the better. Buen Camino

From Sarria to Santiago de Compostella, the country side is beautiful and peaceful. Most of the route we took was non asphalt, blessed with good weather, it was most enjoyable. Seeing the country side of Northwest Spain is such a contrast to Madrid, reminds me of the green lush pasture of Pacific Northwest. Definitely worth the walk, Buen Camino!

Just came back from a great pilgrimage. We wanted to thank you for setting up our Pilgrimage. Everything, and I mean everything, came off without a hitch! From the speed train to Leon to the Taxi to the airport in Santiago at 4:30 in the morning.
We couldn't have been happier with the guide book, the accommodations and the journey! The personal tour of Finnistera was wonderful, as Juoquin was an excellent guide! If there is anything we can do to help recommend your group let us know. What a special 2 and a half weeks.

Camino de Santiago de Compostela, sept 2012. Yes! 800 km on my feet - but mostly on asphalt by big ways! But Spain no love pilgrims. Spain no love ancient, roads, world heritages. Frenetically building Motor ways, traffic high ways, infrastructure - I guess from the EU/UNESCO money they get and don´t give a d... about 200.000 world wide guests or antique roads.
Peoples feet are damaged, no best boots protect soft feet for 800 km. No toilets, so you litterally wade in toilet paper for 800km, no benches, no shade - trees on wrong side, poor dringking water. People have taken not only hollydays but long vacances for months to do this dream, leaving a lot of money to walk in toile papaer on asphalt. Big information signs for cars "You are now driving the world famous Camino" and signs for pilgrims: "Look up for traffic"- but never the other way around: "Look up for pilgrims".
Saw this grafitty on a concrete motorway bridge we had to pass: “F... them changing the Camino all the time. Make your own Camino!” I sort of agree. There are ancient walking roads in all Europe, in all the world - find them, invite your friends, enjoy peaceful nature, have fun and spiritual experinces without motor traffic. The Spanish Camino will soon be dead if they continue like this....

Walked the compostela from Oporto, Portugal.
Not being a trained walker I had my doubts being able to walk the distance but I did and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fantastic countryside, small lanes/roads mostly, little streams and swimming spots,
meeting other peligrinos, eating the local foods and drinking the wine :-).
Portugal overall quite a lot cheaper compared to the Spanish side of the walk (starting in Tui)
And at the end you've got Santiago de Compostela, a magnificent place I thought
Can't wait to walk different ways of this camino.

I`ve done the whole Way starting at Roncesvalles (Navarra). It's an amazing experience. People from many countries, landscapes varying from mountains, jungles to flat fields; good food and wine; uncountable historic settlements; many churches and monuments; and a very good sportive challenge. I've done it in 14 days with my wife cycling around 50 to 70 km/day. The Way is very well signaled with the yellow arrow marked in every crossroad. It's almost impossible to be lost. I strong recommend for people who want tohave a lifetime experience.

Wonderful people on the hike....but do it right. Walkit from SJPDP and carry your own pack! Too many tourists haved their packs carried by local taxis each day. That is CHEATING!

Had the best time doing this trip.. only the last 115km(one day the whole route when I have the time) until then will just do segments.... Galician roots is a great company to help you do this trip.. buen camino

The Camino Primitivo is one of the most beautiful trips I have ever made. Between Oviedo and Lugo in 10 days. You meet very nice people from all over the world.

If we (2 middle aged women) have a month to walk, where should we start?

Assess how much you can walk in a day on average (10km? 15km? 20km? More?), then divide the whole distance (800 km) by your daily average. This gives you the number of days it will take you to complete the whole Camino. Add a couple of days as rest days. If that adds to more than 4 weeks, go to a map of the Camino Frances, where all the stops are marked, and detract the km corresponding to your extra days until you reach 4 weeks + 2/3 rest days. Hope this makes sense.
Just as an example, I walked an average of 25 km/day, had 2.5 rest days, and it took me 35 days to complete the Camino.
