When you see the 9th century Pre-Romanesque churches of San Miguel de Lillo and Santa Maria del Naranco, you are on the Monte Naranco. You can get good views of the city of Oviedo and the countryside from there.

Take the bus to Monumentos and hike all the way up, past the church ruins—so worth it! On a clear day, you'll get some of the best views of Asturias and Cantabria; you can see all the way to Gijón and the coast!

I thought it was unlucky of me that i visited it in a cloudy day but when you are up the top, you feel like you are above everything! It felt like magic! Totally recommended if you have time.

Another perspective of the city from a peaceful and quiet environment. You can se the beautiful city and the horrendous Calatrava's building all in a glance.

...when it's not raining, that is--an Asturias one needs to plan fairly carefully for that. Worth the drive, and catch a meal at Buenos Aires parrilla while you're up there.
