It may not be the first art museum you visit in Bilbao but its definitely one of the best! It was Wednesday so free - a bonus point - and there is a great cloakroom for leaving all the bags and relaxing. I loved the Japanese art exhibit. The staff were very helpful to me and it has a nice... More

Go just to see this Museum, be sure to walk around and look at it from every side. You could be the worst photographer and still take amazing pictures from where ever you stand in any weather.

It is only a few minutes walk from the Guggenheim. Nice collection from the early middleages till modern art. You may spend some hours in this museum and enjoy every minute. A must see exhibition.

The museum was crowded...the A/C did not work well but the art work was displayed nicely and in good lighting...a bit disappointed in ability to see and relax while viewing

Visited on Wednesday when it was free, a big collection and variety of paintings spanning a long time period. The staff weren't very helpful or friendly. Nice to visit but not one of the most interesting places in bilbao.

We visited late on Wednesday afternoon particularly to view the Japanese exhibition and were delighted to discover that entry is free on Wednesdays. Now need to return to see the permanent collection.

Even though the Museo de Bellas Artes was free on Wednesday, there were hardly any visitors in the building to enjoy the initmate collection of paintings. It is always disappointing to find out that some of the paintings were not there (on loan), such as Gauguin's "Laveuses à Arles". Nevertheless it is worh a (free) visit. If you can't visit... More

The staff is not nice and was expecting more impressive paintings. Did not had the chance to see any temporary exhibitions.

There's a rich but not for once overwhelmingly large permanent collection, covering all periods. (The early mediaeval works are particularly interesting.) And when I was there there was also a fascinating special exhibition of work by Markus Luperz. There's also a very useful section on their website where key works are examined in detail, which helps you prepare your visit.... More
