The following is a quote from discoverdonosti.com:
“Circulating Monte Urgull, Paseo Nuevo (The New Promenade) is one of San Sebastian’s finest walkways
Starting at the San Sebastian Aquarium, it’ll take you around 40 minutes to work all the way around the promenade to the Zurriola Bridge and Kursaal.
The whole time you have views of the horizon over the Cantabrian Sea. It’s the perfect place for an afternoon stroll or a sunset walk.“

This is the walk along the sea and a good place to get a sense of the panorama of beaches that front this lovely seaside town. You do get a good idea of how important the sea is to the city. Take a long walk in the sun.

A wonderful view of the sea , the Zurriola and the entrance of the Bahia de La Kontxa. Also when the sea is stormy ( often in the winter) a great place to watch great waves explode against the man made jetty and walls.

An invigorating 40 minute seaside walk, or a lovely ride on hired bicycles, the San Sebastian New Promenade (or Paseo Nuevo) starts at the Aquarium and follows La Concha Beach to end at the Kursaal by the Old Town.
Watch out for big waves crashing over the barriers with rough seas. They look dramatic but you can end up drenched.
At our senior age and level of fitness, the walk would have been too long and too much of the same thing. On our hired bicycles it was easy, fun and interesting stopping 4 times along the way to enjoy the sights and take photos. Beautiful cycle path all the way. At the harbour end, you can take your bike up and down in a large lift from the restaurant level above to the aquarium and port level below.
You can gain access to the roads up to Mount Urgull at the car-park and behind the restaurant at the harbour end.
HERE IS A TIP ABOUT PARKING - Car parks fill up quite quickly in tourist season. You can see online where there is available space in real time : (1) Go to the sansebastianturismo website (2) click on "arriver" (3) select "acces" (4) scroll down to "voiture" (5) select "consultez l'occupation des parkings".

This is an everyday walk for many locals, including runners, couples, retired people and almost anybody.
The vertex that closes the bay, following the line of the port and Aquarium, is a 'must' waypoint. If you are staying in the city for 2 days, this is a place you should come to.
One of the most impressive attractions of this walk is the giant waves. When there is bad weather and there is a sea storm, the waves hit the walls of this walk and jump all over it, raising several meters and through a massive amount of water all over. The sound and the vision of this natural spectacle is breathtaking. Do not expect anything of this in summer, though.

I walked from Mount Ulia in the east to Mount Igueldo in the west along the Zurriola, Concha and Ondaretta beaches that link the three artistic monuments - La Paloma de la Paz (Dove of Peace), Construccion Vacia (Empty Construction) and El Peine del Viento (Wind Comb) - a gentle walk that includes Paseo Nuevo. Why? Because I wanted to. Paseo Nuevo is a sort of Malecon which rounds the Mount Urgull headland with waves crashing onto the rocks and occasionally coming over - could be spectacular on a stormy day. Easy flat stroll.

This impressive path goes around Monte Urgull and affords great coastal views. Caution is advised on windy days as the waves can crash upwards causing you to get wet.

A good pedestrian walkway, around the main beach, with some benches available for a rest. There are a lot of trees to afford shade, in the Summer, [they are heavilty pruned each year to achieve this effect]. Will take you half an hour to an hour, to cover the whole walk, depending on speed.

The entire route along the seafront in San Sebastián is excellent for running.
Note: the cycle lanes are actually for runners AND cyclists. Many parts are surfaced with ‘soft tarmac’.
One lap of the entire stretch is around 13km, but you can go further or cut it short to suit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stroll on this paved walkway around Mount Urgull, which looks down on the Old Town and the water. It took about 40 minutes to walk from the Aquarium to Kursaal, the convention center. A road follows the walkway, but only a few vehicles passed us. We found the area to be extremely quiet.
There is a constant view of the water (La Concha Bay and Cantabrian Sea) and rocky coast along the way.The panorama includes two gorgeous beaches and Santa Clara Island in the bay. Benches invite visitors to sit and enjoy the views or a picnic lunch. We encountered few people here on an April weekday.
Just past the walk's start stands a monumental reproduction of a piece belonging to an 11-sculpture series done by Jorge Oteiza. Titled "Construccion Vacia," (Empty Construction), the steel work resembles a massive gate that opens to the sea. A long-stay pay parking lot is near this sculpture and would be a good place to leave a vehicle to take the walk and explore San Sebastian without dealing with city traffic and looking for parking spaces.
