If you survive the car ride to the top (and bravery is needed) you are in for a treat. It can get very crowded at the top with very limited parking so you may have to be patient. You will be rewarded though with spectacular views - even in a hazy day such as our visit today. The Caldera itself is stunning and the views out to the North, South and particularly East are very special too. The ride down is easier for sure, but you’ll still need strong nerves. Recommended.

During a two-week holiday in Gran Canaria, my wife and I decided to hike around the rim of the Caldera Bandama. This is the largest remaining volcanic crater in Gran Canaria. The rim reaches 569 m (1,867 ft) above sea level at the highest point (Pico de Bandama) and is about 1km wide and about 200 m (700 ft) deep.
It is worth driving up to the Pico as there are stunning view of the crater and also Las Palmas and the surrounding area.

Not often are you able to drive somewhere which will give you such a fantastic view. Great views of the Caldera and beyond to Las Palmas. Be wary with young ones as the altitude may cause pressure issues with babies, as we found.

Easy bus access then a bit of a steep walk up to viewpoint (there is car parking and toilet at the top). Nearby walks around the edge of crater and into the bottom make a good day out.

Good views of uncontrolled coastal development! and a beautiful volcanic crater in the foreground. Bring your own sandwiches and drinks.

If you are fortunate to have clear weather, the view from this spot is wonderful--you can see a large area of the coast of the island and, occasionally, even other islands. The drive here is also very scenic.

The Mirador at Bandama volcano park affords spectacular views of the coast looking south or north to Las Palmas city. There can be great gusts of wind and the amount of hats that sail off into the volcano's gaping crater must be impressive. This is reported to be the spot where Winston Churchill came in the 1950s with a cheerful entourage, they had arrived at the island on the Onassis yacht. Word has it the aging statesman drank copiously but was otherwise most taken by the surroundings.
