    Superb hikes and sceneryv
We visited this area recently, and the area and scenery were stunning ,we did the shorter circular hike from the Cumbrecita viewpoint, but the views were amazing. Just something to note is that if you want to drive up to this viewpoint, you need to book a car park space in advance as it is limited to something like 20 cars per time slot and you might need to book 2 or 3 days before you plan to visit. It's well worth doing, though, if you have the time

    What an experience
The narrow windy road to the top is scary but our coach driver has nerves of steel backing up the mountain to let another cosch pass. Beautiful canary pines and tantalising views into the caldera. Worth the visit

    Spectacular walk
This is a spectacular walk. We took a taxi to the Caldera de Taburiente car park from Los Llanos (E15) from there were shared a taxi with another couple to Los Brecitos (E51 split 2 ways, so E25.50 each couple). When we arrived in the car park there were three other couples waiting for onward taxis and the taxis seemed to be fairly frequent. The other option is to take a taxi from Los Llanos all the way to Los Brecitos which we were told was about E50 but not all taxi drivers want to do the full journey so do check with them first. The reason why some taxi drivers don't want to take you to Los Brecitos is because the road leading up to it is narrow and winds up the mountain for about 30 mins. At the top you are straight onto a flat trail (as the taxi did the climb) with spectacular views from the start. About half way through the walk you arrive at the park information lodge which has toilets. From here you head downwards to reach a point where you can choose a short detour to the Cascada de Colores. We did the detour and you follow a river bank which was almost completely dry to the cascades that were a dribble, so very disappointing. From there you follow a lot of river beds to the end at the Las Vinas car park. We were lucky enough to cadge a lift from someone to take us back to Los Llanos but we did have a phone number for a taxi firm just in case. You can walk back to Los Llanos from here but its a lot of road walking and adds on at least another 1.5 hours of walking. I would recommend mapping this on your GPX as sometimes, especially in the river beds it can be hard to find the trail. We also had good instructions from our travel company but there were lots of people undertaking the route which was a good sign. Finally, it is always best to check that the route is open, the day before it was closed due to bad weather and it took a while the next day for the park authorities to confirm it was open again.

I went on an organised excursion during my visit to La Palma and the first stop was this natural wonder. It’s very peaceful walking through nature and admiring the rock formations and the flora around you. Really enjoyed my visit to this national park and it’s a gem of La Palma.

Rude staff. And the whole process unnecessarily complicated. I went the first time and was told I couldn’t get in without booking the car park. So I went away and eventually booked it, though their website is archaic and difficult to navigate. Got to the park later because we got trapped in tazacorte by a carnival procession and all the roads were closed (we were in a side street to the main road) The woman on the gate said we were more than twenty minutes late for our five hour slot and turned us away! She didn’t even suggest trying to book again. We immediately did book again and turned around and had her check and recheck the booking like she was suspicious. Others were turned away for not having booked too…that’s clearly common. But there doesn’t seem to be any centralised system as there were about thirty vacant spaces up there!! She takes delight in turning you away. It was wonderful to finally get in on our third attempt. Tourism shouldn’t be like this. Almost anywhere you travel these days people are welcoming and recognise the value of tourism to their economy. La Palma isn’t like that. This booking system needs to change. People should be encouraged to see the beautiful national park and getting in and parked should not be difficult. On quiet days when the car park isn’t full allow people in. Better still have some bookings and the rest first come first served with the barrier allowing you in when the system shows availability. And then sack that awful woman at the gate and sauna yourself thirty thousand euros a year!!

Having read a lot about the geology of La Palma, I was looking forward to this first visit with great interest. The island is spectacular but the highlight of the first trip here was the three-hour hike from Roque de Los Muchachos to Pico de La Cruz. The views down into the Taburiente crater were simply awesome, some of the most amazing scenery I have seen anywhere in the world (and I am at 70 countries now). Our Islabonita Tours guide was very knowledgeable and made the six kilometer walk all the more enjoyable. Parts were hard on the knees but to experience the sights we saw is something not to be missed. We have already booked to go back later this year and the camera will again be at the ready. Those three people who rated this attraction as 'terrible' on Trip Advisor really did not know what they were looking at or who had not followed the information regarding visiting the peak!

The heart of the island has a fertile valley that leads up into the large caldera that includes the highest part of La Palma.
This area can be reached utilising the cross island bus number 300 & then hiking.
The views from the mirador/viewing areas are breathtaking.
The problem can be that the trade winds from the North bring clouds as the moist sea air rises up 2600 metres over the rim of the caldera causing mid morning clouds that completely block any views. An early or late visit probably rewards anyone with a hired car.
The hiking up into The Valley is steep but not overly difficult. The free to enter visit centre and small botanic garden are useful reference points for say 45-60 mins visit.
Enjoy great scenery & pleasant hiking,

A stunning site to behold from different points. Definitely worth visiting by La Cumbrecita visitors' centre, very easy to reach by bus or tax or car, from which taxis are also available though some walk the steep climb to the initial viewpoint or drive to the Parking Point. An easy walk from there takes you into the caldera and even this arthritic old lady with bronchial asthma found it very comfortable gently down for the first kilometre and gently up back again.

This entire area is just wonderful scenery, so quiet and calm. The entire area is just incredible, formed from volcanoes, fire and danger, now just a place of beauty and nature. We managed to park okay as arrived late afternoon, but best to book parking if going early as not too many spaces, and pretty tight parking area. We walked the Lomo de las Chozes trail, fantastic shorter one as the sun was going down! Great hike down and around the mountaintainside but not that challenging so okay for most people. The Mirador de los Roques is on the way back, a grand spot to view the amazing valley and forest area surrounding the hikes. What a fantastic place to walk through and around. We will be back.

The parking space is very small and we had to reserve a slot the day before our visit. We arrived early and had to wait which is fair enough.
Once at the top we were greeted by the most magnificent views and enjoyed a very pleasant walk. This is a must on your itinerary.

Hello! They have opened the trails in the Taburiente caldera, so starting tomorrow they can be done. We are a couple, tomorrow, December 6, we want to go to the caldera parking lot and hire a taxi to go and hike from the Brecitos viewpoint. Any group of 2 or up to 5 people who wants to share a taxi?
